@alienbotfarm187 Russia didn't fall to Mongols, Kievan Rus (AKA Ukraine today) did. Mongols invaded Kiev, killed almost all males and had sexy time (very nice!) with Ukrainian ladies for 200 years, basically turning Kiev into a Mongolian city for a while. That's when the power center for Russians became Vladimir and later Moscow.

@alienbotfarm187 do you understand the difference between burning/destroying and occupying? Moscow fought back against Mongols so they burned the city TWICE. The citizens rebuilt it and built up an army big enough to chase Mongols back to Mongolia. Kiev on the other hand was invaded and sat "occupied" for 200 years, because and nobody fought back against the Mongols because generations of Kievans were Mongolians themselves... It wasn't until Lithuanian/Polish invaded Kiev did it become dominated by Slavs again. Btw - that was around the time term Ukrainian first appeared. The Ukraine literally translates as the outskirts, and the term Ukrainian was used by Poles as a deragatory term, having the same meaning as "hillbilly" or "hick" in the US.
