  1. When B mode is selected MG2 and MG1 generate current thats charging batteries. Because of how planetary gear set working, if two parts rotate third also needs to rotate, this is why you can hear a engine. Engine is also used to mechanically slow down by compression. Because b mode force engine running it recommend only to use when is needed. Toyota will automatically apply B mode if go downhill and battery is full when cruise control is set.
