79 years ago it ended. My MIL was alive for the attack on Pearl Harbor living in Hawaii. Her mother carried her into a sugar cane field. They didn’t know it was coming and which or all habited islands effected. But she was 2 months old at the time. For a man to be of fighting age assuming teens involved a person would have to be well over 90.

Japan bombed the U.S. first. May God have mercy on the dead all around. Do I feel guilty as an American? No. They started it. It decidedly freed many prisoners, many countries freed, thank goodness we got it before an axis power and less of our guys died if it had to be a land invasion. I watched Grave of the Fireflies. I was irritated by the boy saying how the emperor would make them pay and hearing long live the emperor. What did he think his father was doing to people as ordered by the emperor for decades by the first Tokyo bombings? Japan was bombing others and invading and annexing and interning others. Also made no sense why Mom would go on to the bomb shelter and leave the kids behind to follow. I have seen some Japanese YouTube channels where an earthquake tremor occurs and the moms are running for their toddlers and covering the toddler protectively with their bodies. I’m sure Oppenheimer would irritate the Japanese the same way Grave of the Fireflies irritated me. Every American made movie need not be shown in every country. Americans are not bothered by the peace park in Japan. Why are Japanese bothered about comfort statues in Korea? Germany isn’t bothered by the remnants of WWII still standing as reminder. Japan hasn’t fully owned Nanking either. Yet U.S. and Japan have a fine relationship soon after the war and continued for decades. I’m sorry goes a long way. I’m not sure I want to see Oppenheimer. I don’t know how woke it is going to be.

@jayq2571 it started in 1904/1905. You see WWII in the pacific didn’t start with the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Japan had been invading, killing, raping, taking, annexing, interning, committing genocide, relocating, starving, forced labor and expanding for decades before. The first time Japan proper was bombed, finally their land seeing some of what war looks like, was 1942. Those were not atomic. The reason we are stationed in Japan ever since is so neighbors don’t retaliate and they don’t need an army again to defend themselves if they do. And so neighbors don’t worry they will build an army/navy and go exploring again. The reason we have been in Korea almost as long as the North and South has a ceasefire since the 50’s. It never ended. The second country to get the bomb was the USSR in 1949. So each side in that war had the bomb so it was basically keep bombing the others until no buildings left. Nothing decisive. If no one but the USSR had it in 1949 would they not have gone back to 1905 and wanted control over the region again? Defeating Japan and having their influence in China and Korea or flat out taking bits of it over? The Russia revolution occurred cause they suffered losses in the Russian Japanese war of 1904.

@alanho6814 Japanese interned over a hundred thousand civilians all over the pacific. Please read up on Korea and China before the U.S. entered the war when attacked by bombs suddenly that Sunday morning. Think of the hospital they hit. Japan wartime atrocities to help you Google. Hundreds of thousands killed marching to Nanking few were soldiers among the victims. What did the Japanese think their country was doing for decades? That is what bombing is like for civilians. They had not even a taste of that until 1942 (not atomic) and then finally 1945. It took doing it twice.

@zoespam10000 Japan apologized to the U.S. for the war. Japan denies the number of the Nanking massacre and denies comfort women issue and wants the statues of it in Korea removed. Most comfort women Korean. They made many Koreans go to Japan for labor and many have remained and are basically residents with no citizenship. They pressured for intermarriages, forced Japanese language, etc.. then the north and south divide happened soon after. So many reasons a percent of them failed to return. The reason the U.S. in Japan all these years is their neighbors concerned they will go exploring again. But if Japan does not have a military they are at risk for retaliation. So we babysit. Japan does not have a military to invade and no one will attack Japan with the U.S. there. Its neighbors are not happy with their actions after the end of the war. Probably because the U.S. finished it with the bombings. It was not China or Korea or name your country Japan pissed off many countries. It is hard to cheer about the success of a weapon. It is also not right to sit by when another is being an aggressor and so many are suffering. The real thing of interest is the U.S. and Japan have gotten to a really good relationship rather quickly after all of that. Both countries doing well economically high in the world ranking. Korea will hold a grudge longer than the Irish will toward England. And that has been going on for many centuries.

@ゔぁゔぁ-x4d genocide to eradicate a people. Everything about them. It’s not about just killing them. And they killed a great number of them. The exact figures are disputed. Naturally. Japan removed their leaders and system of government and system of justice. They forced all to take Japanese names. Only language used in schools was Japanese. They took their rice. Koreans grew rice and it was sent to Japan. They got to eat barley. They lost their religious practices. All must worship the emperor. Korea was a country that had education already. Korea had an alphabet for pity sakes. Japan has thousands of characters to memorize. Young girls trafficked to be sex slaves for soldiers about the world. Men and women relocated to be laborers or conscripted for Japanese army. Mistreated by Japanese at home and when in Japan. The Koreans stuck in Japan are stateless. Not all could go back. Not enough to go back. No language to speak once there. May have been married to a Japanese or biracial and that was not safe to go back. North was communist not safe to go back. At various points S Korea run by dictators not safe to go back then either. The country was not the empire of Korea they were born into anymore. But you are saying all that okay cause they built some buildings in the southern part of the peninsula? Koreans were not living in tents before that. You know the Nazi’s first took those people to be slave labor. It was only at the end they started killing everyone on purpose just for the sake of it.

@crowstakingoff Japan had been killing millions of innocent people since 1905 when the whole thing started. Annexing, invading, relocating, forced labor, interning, genocide, occupying, starving, bombing, etc.. Read from the perspectives of Japan’s other neighbors suffering for decades before the U.S. was bombed Pearl Harbor and was suddenly in the fight. Rape of Nanking, Korea has a great deal to say as well. Have you seen Tenko? Would you rather be a female civilian in a Japanese internment camp or a Japanese American in a west coast internment camp? Neither fair but honestly quite different. Dig a little deeper.
