She is complaining about not going overseas for trips or study and the writer seems to forget that she said they spent 5 years in Germany because of his work.

The husband can not visit his mom and its fine but she doesn't and it is a problem? They may as well get divorced. They haven't been married since before he was born. She is too concerned about her son, but her husband ignores them both. He is why.

It makes sense she wanted her son to not work for a conglomerate where the job comes before the birth of his child.

How come almost recommendation was made fir the husband to fix his faults? Like the wife and son were only focused on thing, rank in school, the husband was only focuses on work and was for a longer period of time than the son and wife. Was there a divorce or they are trying to remain a family?

The problem is the husband failed her and the son is the retirement plan in Korea. With the way cost of living has gone up no way a person could save enough to live on without relying on an income worker into their old age. Mandatory retirement is young in Korea with most having to open and run some sort of business in their golden years.

It would seem spending time on financial education might help people more than English lessons?

She should yell at her brother for missing the birthday.

Actually they are closing universities there because of the low birth rate, elementary schools too. Foreign univerisites are setting up satalite schools in songdo, south korea. 80% are in extra classes. They all want to get into the top three schools, only 5% will. Another 15% will leave and study abroad. The school you go to determines your future. The dad did have an enviable job.

He worked. He was the landlord. He didn’t father him. He wasn’t a partner to her. The fact they rank the kids and teacher’s publicize who got the top score is the reason to over react like that. I think schools recently stopped doing that to that extent.

He was ignored or hassled. He did not want the heath tonic or more classes or the pressure to get the top rank in class all the time.

In the U.S. or UK or Australia or Canada you can have a nice life no matter the school you attend or the city you live in.

I have watched this a few times and it makes more and more sense. She wanted her son to not be his father who had to go on the plane or lose his job rather than be at the birth of his child. Few jobs allow for that in Korea. At least the Korea a few decades ago. They should have divorced years ago but the child of a divorced parent is at a disadvantage in Korea including work opportunities.

Grandma is very wise at minute 26.

You didn’t visit your own mother.

She could have bought him an apartment outright with all she put into that kid and it would not matter what college he went to.
