The sidewalk is not their place of worship. The sidewalk is not a holy place.

@robertblake9892 with that logic the Orthodox Jew and Muslim and Amish would have to run around half naked in San Fransisco. Streets are public places. The flashing everyone is unacceptable in any community.

@rt8532 what point. It’s not a private compound it’s a few blocks of a NYC neighborhood with other people there as well. We are not a majority rules place but a country where the rights of the minority opinion protected. It’s not the FLDS compound in Texas. This is the U.S. it’s not some theocratic country with a 99% population of a single faith where there is a dress requirement.
22
@robertblake9892 I’ve seen the Amish in a downtown Chicago intersection. America is a wonderful place.

The ‘flowery’ language is similar to Catholic girls high school. There will be a balance in the introduce between morality, character, Catholic perspective and additional words like leader and achievement and the future academics cause all are expected to do college or something after graduation. It is expected of any school that requires tuition.

@esterherschkovich6499 I think divorce is encouraged after 10 years so each can find a partner which they can reproduce with. Maybe it’s the combination of the couple? The child in adoption goes through the conversion process. Or baby. If the bio mom is not Jewish or unable to know. Not all divorce. Sometimes God says no and the couple accept and remain childless or adopt.

@rt8532 I think you are responding to the wrong person. I’d wear shorts in that neighborhood if weather called for it. You can’t expose yourself. She was a flasher. There are laws against that have nothing to do with religion. I was a children’s librarian public library. If she was inside the library with a trench and opened it to reveal herself naked I’d call the cops and expect them to arrest her. I’m saying people do not have to adhere to a community standard that the majority represents just cause they are on the same block. So I would not be covering myself. Nor exposing myself if in a warmer climate.

The Amish are allowed to be educated differently. But there is a basic for the younger grades I just don’t see applied here. The Amish also have a period where they are free to explore whether they will leave or stay.

It’s fine there is Hebrew and Religious Studies. The state has standards of learning. Those are meant to make sure at 16-18 a child could get a job or continue education. Other religions have religious studies in private schools and those kids have a working knowledge of math and the language. Even home schoolers have a standard.

@karenfenter1139 NY is part of the U.S. and the only dress code is wearing a bathing suit at the beach and at least that much everywhere else. You don’t have to dress on the sidewalk any other way in any area. Those countries you speak of have clothing requirements.

I am very pro Israel. I’m shocked. But I understand in the decades after the war how scary some would feel about it. Israel has saved many Jews in various parts of the world. There were Jews there before the 1940’s and those descendants certainly safer. It seems almost survivalist. Don’t attract attention by wearing dark clothes. Make sure to spread out geographically and have a big family. There is a beauty in serving God generation to generation for over 5000 years with the same energy.
9
@1BestCookie there are many reasons people may be on a public sidewalk in that neighborhood. Decide to live in a populated area of a big U.S. city you see people dressed unlike yourself. This is not a gated community or private property.

It is good to see that technology is okay, it is just all content is not embraced.

He isn’t home. He is studying out of the house. Like the sons. Would it not be good if on Sunday fathers and sons could study at home and spend a few hours at a park?
7
Everything is nerve wracking as a parent. Whether introduced or not matches and marriages fall apart sometimes.
7
Mrs Pearl is sweet to share.

I actually get spending tons on a Seder plate with room for handmade matzah. I still do not under $250 for an orange like fruit that will last a short time. The silver can be used again and again even passed down and it has artistic value. It’s the nativity set or Christmas tree of pesach.
6
Catholic schools also pick specific color socks. And shoes.

@deskset7436 see the problem is the woman not deciding herself, perhaps with input from her husband, as it’s not required or all sects would do it. Her hair is meant to be for her and him and not others. If there is no hair, other than person desire to not have hair, what is the point of the hair exclusive to the couple?
6
I would panic the first time I heard the tornado siren. That is what I would assume it is.
6
For generations women wanted choice. But when women chose home people out there are upset? What a choice if no one ever stays home and no one ever became a doctor? You have to see examples of both to prove there is a choice.

Saved by magnatiles.

We have been conditioned to think we need to find something to be unhappy about.

@FriedaVizelBrooklyn it’s like a uniform. A lot of micromanagement, if I were from there I might be mad at God over it. Cover this part or that part is fine but colors and how to cover is too much. What do sensory sensitive people do? Are there allowances for autism and such?
5
@yubbadubbadubba For situations. No one is complaining about the school uniform at school. It’s having that uniform at the park no matter the weather, on the street, etc.. that is the excess. We have a choice in where we work to an extent. The uniform is part of that decision. But it’s actually kinda of my point what you are saying about the secular world. My teen son has sensory stuff going on. From time to develops his own uniform and it’s not just that he needs repetition it’s an attachment to a particular shirt of a particular material and the color matters as well. And it changes every few years. In the secular world he can throw a button down over it for a few hours for a funeral. In this world he would have be in it all the time? Situation of distress much longer or stand out. Maybe he would be pitied for disability and allowed the deviation from the dress code, but why make a person with a mostly invisible disability look outwardly as if they have a disability?

Empty bags very clever.

Why say a prayer for rain in December?
4
I grew up in a bubble too. There are benefits. Safe feelings.
4
Why do you think people leave because of restrictions? Not everyone fits in a bubble. It doesn’t mean the bubble is bad or the person who doesn’t fit in the bubble is bad. I’m relieved to hear the shunning isn’t the reality what the movies and tv present to the world.
4
@kyla593 the Lubavitcher Rebbe didn’t have kids. Is it sinful not to fulfill every commandment even though you try to?
4
@onlooker4564 it’s tradition. They don’t all shave. Some just cut very short. It’s practical for wig or scarf wearing. It’s also appropriate for mikvah. The hair should not be tangled. Short hair or shaved head makes that easier. Nuns used to shave head or cut very short as well under the habit. She mentioned earlier video she didn’t get great hair in the first place. It’s an odd question to her cause growing up and present moms shave or cut really short their hair. How can you satisfy the curiosity of another when it’s something you never questioned. To the outside world we remember all those holocaust movies where they shave everyone’s head in the camps.

I can’t imagine having kitchen to only use one season a year.
4
True happiness from the Creator. I like the message he gave.
4
It’s not people outside complaining. It’s kids grown up now adults complaining.
4
Where are all the wives and daughters?

She is an elder in the community, she was asked. She answered.

I have seen that string thing but had no idea it had to do with a box of matzah.

@sll3537 the age to pursue Higher Ed is the age they can OTD. The women could sit in a community college classroom and take a math or English class. May not be calculus but you can say the same for public school kids. The men could not. They would be language learning English for a time before taking a remedial English class. Or be in some sort of skills trade class. Which is fine an honest choice of study, but maybe not their choice of what to do. But even the Trade class will have to wait for the language learning English program to complete. The Amish would know how to build a structure, repair things, make furniture, milk a cow, birth livestock, plant, sew, etc…. They don’t lose their occupation if they leave and they have some marketable skill. I would rather they cover more in school.

Pearl is happy because she is content. Why don’t we just decide to be content? What would it hurt? Why is it so hard?
3
What law says pantyhose are required to cover legs? Did Sara wear them? I always imagined her wearing sandals without socks. Will they be lifting up skirts? I think they just want the problems to be about socks. It’s a pleasant world when the schools major concern is about socks. It is nice to be in a bubble. Especially when the rest of the world gone goofy and a bit scary. It reminds me of Mayor Giuliani who got rid of graffiti and panhandlers. Handle the small stuff and it takes care of the big stuff. I feel like a marionette puppet in pantyhose. I’m glad I could wear socks. Sounds a nightmare for people with sensory issues.

He certainly thought out of the box. Sad to hear the length of day. I would be bouncing all over the walls with a day that long.

@FriedaVizelBrooklyn everyone chooses where to put their money. The fancy plate retains its value. Does God really care if a person paid $30 or $250 for a piece of fruit? Is the sincerity in the price? I suppose God cares how much you spent for matzah. Hand versus machine. The plate is too ornate for me. I would pray it would not pass down to me. But imagine 20 or more people all benefiting from the decoration. Families gather. Is it really showing off when the same family member hosts year after year? The burden of fearing it stolen for value of parts would be a concern. Looked like some gold to it. I over think. At least the fruit doesn’t need to be stored all year like the plate.
3
@1BestCookie no. It’s America. It does not matter if you are a little league team or their parent coming in mass to use the park. It does not matter if on a tour. Of course a store can refuse service to anyone. I’m talking the sidewalk and public outdoor space. The signs put up saying to dress a certain way would be wrong. Period. A group of people from a commune or religion that just happen to live there in the majority on that block or blocks do not have some ability to decide what happens on the sidewalk. Others on sidewalk there by chance or in group do not have to adhere to some community expectation. This is not Iran. This is not Turkey. It does not mean birthday suit. Obvious swim suit parts covered. I don’t think you realize how it is elsewhere in the world.
3
You can have a private school, but you have to do the basics. It’s the same for the Catholic, Christian, secular private… One in a thousand passed a basic skills test? That is unacceptable. If that happened for a public school administration and even teachers would be shown the door and changes would be made.
2
Was it support or pressure? Is any couple equally zealous about religious practice their entire married life? Was it cause of the talk of the neighbors? Such a pity the marriage ended. Such a relief a get was given. There are cruel cases when the husband won’t give a get. Losing a child they each are the only ones to grieve the same way about it. To not grieve together seems wrong. It’s not a society that permits relationships in a casual way after the marriage ends like in the secular world.
2
@FriedaVizelBrooklyn I don’t mean get all wild I just mean they all know they can live another way. The point isn’t for everyone to change their life but the choice needs to be there.
2
I wish the salmon fillet could be embraced. Or Moroccan fish stew?
2
Doesn’t Torah have enough commandments?
2
@desertpriere the girls are fine it’s the boys education that is at issue.
2
@moishegoldstein501 I thought there were weekly Torah portions. Not hourly Torah portions. Does God say you have to get spend x time on a page a day? You can’t add or take for Torah so how can it be lowered?
