Time has been measured different in different places over the last many thousands of years ago. For the Roman Catholic Church we don’t mean to pick the exact date of these things. I am sure you find a Wikipedia article saying the opposite but dates for these things were not meant to copy pagans. The church gets through most the Bible in a year through daily mass, every three years when it comes to Sunday readings. The year is divided into seasons lent, advent, ordinary time. And the readings correspond to the season. Easter is somewhere around Passover. It’s a changing date. Christmas is fixed. Christmas is more than dec 25. There is advent and then past Christmas through to the epiphany. We don’t go through the Bible from the first book in order or we would reread the gospels on after another and never see them for a year. And we don’t want an individual priest to go jumping from book to book at will but everyone no matter what parish they go to in the world will hear the same readings on the same day. If you go to a nondenominational church you don’t know what the pastor will talk about.
