  1. Just cause the value went down does not mean you lost it. Price only matters at the time of purchase or sale and you are living it in the mean time.

  2.  @loryd8606  then you either sold soon after moving in or took out loans against the principle and then had to move. You will be fine in the retirement home if you don’t sell it in a few years and you don’t take out home equity loans. If it’s a house you intend to live in for a good many years it will be fine. Just cause it’s worth less it only matters if you have to buy and sell it AT that time. If you bought it at 120K and you sold it for 50K it doesn’t really matter at one point it was worth 170K.
