  2. I’m guessing the grandfather who cared for the boy paid the traffickers for a baby boy. The parents had no son and didn’t care but the elder generation would have cared. Seeing the grandfather was the one who mostly cared for the boy it was likely him. On the flip side sometimes parents at work or away from home working while MIL taking care of child. Wants/needs a grandson and not a granddaughter and she abandons the baby. The parents find out much later. Too late sometimes. Anyone is capable of anything.  Who would have thought a person would take a baby from the arms of a grandfather and beat the grandfather. Shocking. It’s like when you hear about women killing a pregnant women to take the baby. Heinous.  There are legitimately abandoned babies in China that are adoptable. Questionable why this family didn’t think they would qualify. Even boys. At this time you needed government permission to marry and then government permission to have a baby. If you were unexpectedly pregnant deciding to marry and keep it was not really a choice given the quota system. Too much control. So lots of babies abandoned by parents of either gender cause they don’t have permission to have them legitimately. China has changed their one child policy and closed international adoption. There is still a number of children, 3, allowed under certain circumstances. Now if you want to be a good member of party you better have a few kids. Ironic. I wish they just let people have none or 10 as they like. They did so much to restrict births. I hate to think what they will do to encourage them. After 40 years the economy, housing, society is set up for 2 adults to have a single child. It will be hard to change that. After telling people the country is too crowded and children a burden.
