  1. Cars of that era had rust built into them. A guy I knew had a Vauxhall Victor and the roof even had rust patches!! Ledges constructed to collect mud all over them and quite a few of mine (from 1954 to 1980) were literally rust patches all held together with body filler and the patches connected together with more rust. Many still managed to pass the MOT oddly enough.
