Why not just fail it?

I can understand a refusal if say a 4x4 was clogged with mud after an off road trip. Best thing people in the situations mentioned is to take it to a workshop and ask them to make it roadworthy first. THEN take it to a testing station.

@gilesgreenaway5655 Yes I am serious. MOT testers do not drive the vehicles in order to test them. Why would they do that? I would love to know because I used to prepare vehicles for testing.

@chrisjones2224 How many vehicles will be so bad that they can't be driven a few yards? As I said earlier, the only reasons I could see would be a vehicle so clogged with mud that the underside couldn't be examined or the drivers seat wasn't bolted down. Now how many vehicles would that be? Get real.

@chrisjones2224 I had qualifications actually. I was a diesel mechanic, that one one of my first jobs and I did that for quite a few years. One of my duties was to do pre plating checks on busses and trucks. I am now retired so I don't want to be an MOT tester now and never wanted to be one either thanks.
