We went to an M&S a few weeks back and noticed security tags on steaks. We asked the cashier about theft and he told us it was prolific with people clearing whole racks of clothes and filling bags of food and leaving. Staff were told not to get involved (no beefy security guards to be seen) so it is basically giving them the green light. This is going on everywhere now. Barriers may help with this but it is a slippery slope to Hell. I won't go into who these people are but most of us can guess. What has this country become? That said it is an issue which has been imported. I do remember in the 2000s certain groups going in in gangs to leather shops and stealing large amounts, but it has got a lot worse. I know because I was dealing with it all in my profession.

@sweeta17 That was along time ago. Have you ever seen plain clothes store detectives apprehending anyone these days? I haven't.

@smallfeet4581 Much worse now though. I lived in Dorset where farms left eggs outside with an honesty box, but when the immgs started coming in they had to put them inside. I don't think they even sell them now. Shame, but that was when people could often be trusted.

@bazbond6004 Yes I agree. Actually you wouldn't believe this but it actually started in 1984 of all years when they brought in the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE). After that it was down hill all the way. It got really crazy believe me. I know because I was in it back then. The police are a disgrace. PACE was a sort of starting gun for the rot in the force and the (what my username says) was the starting gun for the lunacy and the breakdown of moral society we now see. So what you say is not far from the truth - in fact it's spot on!

@TheGalwayFarmer Thanks. It's a way I can get out a message without comments being deleted. But yes shoplifting has gone on for decades, but it has got much worse.

@smallfeet4581 Now the police and government have let the Gene out of the bottle all and sundry see it as a field day. I know it's not just immgnts but you'll find the majority are and not all look like immgnts. Staff at M&S and Lidl were told not to intervene. I wouldn't stop them either.
