@malcolmrickeard6674 The good thing is they can't take us to Civil Court as we are still paying them, but maybe just not as much as they wanted. They told me it was to make it easier for me so I could - spread my costs over the year. Yeah right! So now I owe THEM a few hundred quid, so rather than them holding my money I am now holding theirs. LOL

@malcolmrickeard6674 It was actually a suggestion by them for me to spread the cost to make it 'easier' for me and I did actually pay that for three months, Then I found out that the energy companies were paying the government a wind-fall tax due to them making massive profits so I decided on my current plans. I will keep paying what I pay (roughly the same as before the price hike) until I feel like changing my payments, not giving them the benefit of hiking my bill whenever they feel like it. Whether it's legal or not I don't know but so long as I pay them what I can afford there's nothing they can do about it.

@malcolmrickeard6674 It's only legal because a DD was set up initially and there would have been a contract for them to take what you owe them. I am sure to get back what they are holding under that agreement may be more difficult, but some companies do. You can cancel your DD and tell them you will pay X amount each month and wait for your credit to go to zero, then pay a reasonable amount after that by a one off payment. That's what did.
