  2. Maybe this is an opportunity to reform the education system a little bit. I've seen young Japanese women getting a bachelor in literature, then worked as office ladies for a few years before quitting to get married. Zero use of their expensive degrees. This is not new. Many Japanese young people at university have spent their time working a baito and not so much studying, because the hardest part was to pass the entrance exam, not to earn the degree. Eventually they'd find a job unrelated to their academic studies. A waste of the parent's money. This is less the case for engineers, lawyers, scientists etc. but it's been quite common in Japan nonetheless. New graduates actually learn a job in the first couple of years in the 1st company that recruited them. Hopefully this crisis will force the academic system to be rationalized in order to face the next economic challenges of the country.
