These are meaningless slogans. What good is freedom if the population is starving, dehydrating, unsafe and subject to massive violence and little rule of law? Isn't socio-economic development more important in the short run?

No one benefits from Haiti's current challenges. Least of all Haitians. Why fight imperialists? Isn't it more important for Haiti to be successful and prosperous?

@Vibrations369 I am not Haitian. But I would repeat . . . no other nation benefits from Haiti's low per capita income, violence and instability. All other countries are hurt by this. We benefit from the success of others; as others benefit from our success. Haiti's resources . . . . please elaborate? Do you mean Haitian brains that are not being fully self-actualized? Many Haitians are diamonds in the rough and geniuses that could greatly advance global technology, product development, process innovation.

Why was Haiti so much more successful in the 1920s, 1940s, 1950s than today? Haiti use to be more affluent than Jamaica and the Dominican Republic until 1958. Now Jamaica and DR have 3 and 7 times the per capita income of Haiti. The Haitian great depression began in 1963 and more earnestly in 1981. The current great depression has lasted 43 years. And Haiti has become one of the poorest countries in the world, almost completely dependent on foreign grants and 10,000 NGOs. What set this great depression off? How can Haiti's economy begin moving again?

@fassadine6352 The challenges that countries such as the USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, DR, Bahamas, Canada, Trinidad, Guyana, El Salvadore, Brazil confront are of a different nature than the challenges of Haiti. And a distraction. You are right about the dangers of the global NGO + foreign aid industrial complex. Have you seen Poverty Inc from 2014? "Haiti not poor and do not need handout. USA want Haiti for her wealth. Haiti do not want USA, USA need Haiti." Do you mean that there are many talented Haitians? Many Haitian geniuses? And the rest of the world wants them? There is some truth to this. Many Haitian Americans are very successful. The vast majority of the wealth of Haiti is in her people. One of Haiti's issues is that she is run by Haitian Americans, the global NGO complex, the global foreign aid complex, tourism business, apparel business, BBQ and some other militia leaders. And they don't seamlessly work together. How would you establish law and order; so that Haiti can become a startup nation? And attract the Haitian diaspora and talented immigrants to move to Haiti?

@Vibrations369 Self-actualization is vastly more than "Human Resources". The wealth and resources of Haitians lies in the greatness of her people. The world has a massive shortage of talent. And Haitian talent is very valuable for other countries. Haitian talent can save other countries. The entire western hemisphere only has 5 poor countries: Haiti Venezuela Cuba Honduras Nicaragua Most countries in Haiti's neighborhood are affluent self-confident self-reliant successful countries: Bahamas Guyana Panama Trinidad & Tobago Costa Rica Dominican Republic Mexico Brazil Columbia Colombia El Salvadore USA Canada (to a lesser degree Jamaica and Guatemala) Geography is partly destiny. And Haiti is very fortunate to be in a very good neighborhood full of high functioning capable stable countries. Haiti can make the big bucks doing business with them. Haiti has extraordinary potential. Haiti can in the long run become a start up nation.

Why are Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvadore, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Mexico, Colombia and to a lesser degree Jamaica so economically successful? Why is Haiti almost alone in her neighborhood not socio-economically successful?

"God is too far and the USA is too close." This does not make sense. God is very close. And being in a prosperous region (which Central America, Caribbean and North America are) is a huge economic advantage. Location in some ways is destiny. Haiti can export goods and services to her near neighbors.

Constant push to keep Haitian wages down? This makes no sense. Haiti has mass unemployment. Haiti needs low wages to attract global FDI and bus dev and reduce unemployment.

Why doesn't she applaud other Caribbean and Central American countries for their excellence and rise? She also does not acknowledge the things the Haitian people could have done better. For example, as recently as 1958 Haiti was richer per capita than DR and Jamaica. Now Jamaica has 3 times the per capita income of Haiti. Now DR has 7 times the per capita income of Haiti. Haiti's economic deterioration began in earnest in 1963 and the Haitian ongoing deep depression began in 1981. The Haitian economic great depression has now been underway for 43 years. At the time the Duvalier family might have seemed brutal. But has Haiti after the Duvalier been worse? Who can establish law, order and stability in Haiti now? Should the world help a BBQ led national unity coalition establish a benign autocracy for a time to stabilize Haiti, establish a strong rule of law and security; and facilitate rapid real GDP growth. Preparing Haiti for eventual elections when BBQ feels Haiti is ready? Or should the world back another Haitian coalition? How can foreign aid and the 10,000 NGOs be used to facilitate rapid Haitian growth and some positive merit driven increases in inequality? Facilitating an exponential increase in entrepreneurship in Haiti? How can Haiti's education outcomes be massively improved? How can the African Union help?

Why in your view does Haiti have less than half the per capita income adjusted for PPP of any other country in the western hemisphere other than Cuba and Venezuela? A successful Haiti would greatly benefit all of Latin America, USA, Canada, France, Europe, Africa, Asia, world.

@poppygoldensun Thanks for your detailed response. For generations up until 1958, Haiti was richer per capita than the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Until 1980, Haiti was a relatively prosperous successful stable country (don't want to exaggerate how successful Haiti was.) Now The Dominican Republic and Jamaica have 7.5 times and 4 times the PPP per capita income of Haiti. What in your view went wrong in Haiti after 1980? One of the many problems I have with Jemima is that she does not acknowledge that Haiti has had many periods of relative stability, low violence, prosperity. And something went desperately wrong in Haiti after 1980. I think PART (not all) of what went wrong is the irrational critical theory cultural marxist and socialist ideas of Jemima gained influence within Haiti and the foreign powers interacting with Haiti. This was a terrible imperialistic colonial colonization of the minds of Haitians, Caribbeans and Latinos by the European intelligentsia. Caribbean and latino minds were colonized by inferiority complex to damage self-confidence and keep people down. And to turn people against each other with mostly fake categories of oppressor and oppressed (divide and conquer.) [As if the main problem for Haitian females and lbgtq+ are cis Haitian older men--for example.] Sadly, Haitians were harder hit by this than the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean.

You need a deep layered strategy to engage with Haitian Americans in a way they will listen to you. Are you saying that the global NGO complex (which Haitian Americans are part of) of 20,000 NGOs and Haitian private business [heavily owned by and operated by and connected to Haitian Americans and foreign business people] has been hiring private security for their operations and that has over time led to powerful organized crime militias that now wield great power inside Haiti? If so, this is my reading as well. How can Haitian Americans and the world help in the formation of a powerful grand army of Haiti that can establish law and order and monopoly of force inside Haiti? Would Haiti benefit from a strong Duvalier type figure to stabilize Haiti and force through difficult and painful reforms? Can Barbeque be that new Duvalier strong figure? Should Haitian Americans and the whole world back Barbeque? Can Barbeque save Haiti?
