I think the ability to be alone and not lonely is the ultimate saving grace that everyone should learn.

It really depends on your personality and judgement, but yeah, I recommend (nice) guys to not jump the gun into marriage (under US laws). I know people who marry people who verbally and physically abuse them, cheat on them, and still get half of their hard-earned wealth after divorce. Sounds a bit like a scam even to me. If you're iffy or concerned, get a prenup that outlines that the other party forfeits any extra earnings (that they themselves could not have earned during the course of the marriage - think giving up career to be stay-at-home) if they violate certain conditions (abuse, cheating, etc).

@extra2ab I would say being alone without feeling lonely is easier achieved by some people than others. Extroverts tend to need people to feel energized. In Enneagram theory, self preservation dominant (me) are generally pretty content alone. Just depends on the individual.
