  1. But there is pressure built up inside the cupped section of the bolt carrier, otherwise why make it cupped in the first place instead of just a flat surface? Eklund even refers to the end-piece of the gas tube as a piston, because it is fit and finished to provide a gas seal, albeit a very inefficient one. Bloke on the Range has a great video about the ARs gas system that explains this more. I highly recommend it as there are still a lot of misconceptions about the way DI works.
