I had one briefly before selling it to Othais and C&Rsenal. Was a really cool gun, super complicated disassembly, but fun to shoot especially with those stripper clips to help loading. It unfortunately had a lot of problems, so I sold it to them and now Mark is fixing it.

This is easily my favorite Winchester. One of the prettiest guns I ever saw was an 1895 flatside musket, looked like this http://jamesdjulia.com/wp-content/uploads/images/auctions/346/images/lrg/47626.jpg

Or more likely they just didn't wanna spend more money on foreign rifles in general. Easier to make what you know than to keep buying from someone else and deal with the logistical hassle. There, of course, may have been a political or nationalistic element but it's largely insignificant compared to the cost.

These things are also tragically complicated to disassemble. Split pins, roll pins, and screws a plenty.
