  2. Ian, I believe that brownish coloration of the slide is a form of plumb bluing. Some guns, like the H&K P7 or the S&W revolvers, are blued with a technique that may age into a brownish reddish "plumb" color. Depending on how much use it's seen, it may either be quite even and uniform, like so (http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c249/FXDXI/HK%20P7/DSC_1013.jpg) or be irregular like your MAC 50.
