  2. I had a conversation with someone earlier about this, and I personally thought they were always classified as their own genre of weapon, mostly due to being multi-barreled. Even the M134 and other aircraft-bound multi-barrel autocannons are called gatling guns (although I'm not sure if that's an official designation)
