You know that the BIg Bang Theory was invented by a Christian theologist? It was criticized back then by some atheist scientists who thought, that it is too religious, made up by a theist who was looking for a theory that is compatible with his believe in a creator. Actually physicists in the Chinese communism revolution were not allowed to teach the Big Bang theory, because it has room for a God. And according to their ideology, everything was always there. The Big Bang theory basicly says, that the universe (so time and space) have a beginning at a certain point in the past. It doesn't tell anything about "something came from nothing". Instead it starts with: Everything is already there. It doesn't say anything what was before, or where did it come from, or why did it happen.

The "CERN tunnel"? It was the Gotthard base tunnel. A railway tunnel. Switzerland is famous for them. The only thing it has in common with CERN is , that it is in Switzerland. Fundamental research only works with public funding and not in the private business sector. Because you don't immediately get results from it, that you can sell. That is nothing. The German parliament alone costs 900 Million Euro in 2020.

It is funded by several countries, so tax payers at the end. The biggest contributor (21%) is Germany with 258.2 million CHF in 2024, that is about 276 million Euros. That is actually not much and just a very small part of the federal budget. Running the German parliament alone needs about 1000 million Euros per year.
