Houston, Texas has sunk so much over the years, that the city is actually below sea level. The greatest fear is that one of these days, an extraordinary hurricane will push seawater inland, and the water will flood Houston, and they will never be able to get the salt water out.

Ancient Iranians had water harvesting devices in the desert. You can still see the artifacts when you visit their remote villages.

That's only a standard public relations release. They don't care about national security threats. They are traders, not warriors.

Wang had a factory in Hong Kong making magnetic core memories.

Wow.

The West is trained to hate Russia from an early age. Irrational hate resulted in irrational fear.

Do you have a link to Craig Addison? I can't find him anywhere.

Japan is still a defeated country under the occupation of the American military.

Final analysis -- System Failure -- No strong central govt that can lead the project. Too many fringe voices took control. Have Long-term foresight, but the system does not allow Long-Term commitment. No perseverance, little setback and scuttled the whole project.

I am afraid the AZ Fab will meet a similar fate. *Money cannot buy happiness.*

The tech world was brutal. When the times were good, the champagne flowed and the Porsche sales were brisk. Just like the rollercoaster at an amusement park, the ride was exhilarating, but before you knew it, the ride was over.

The lucky ones got a golden handshake.

I can make a simple prediction -- the TSMC venture is going to fall flat on its face.

This just proves Globalization works: Microsoft makes the OS but not the computer. Computer companies make the computer but not the CPU. The fabs make the CPU but not the design.

The British system does not work. The British method does not work. The British politic does not work. When are they going to learn?

They think of their market is the prime target. They still think of themselves as the center of the world. but the world is changing.

one year later . . . TSMC is being pushed. How will it handle the bullying?

You should do a study on Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit.

Good vid. But the gossips and insider trading are even juicier.

If you check the internet/youtube, you will find lots of posts about Sharp TVs suffering a premature failure. Most of the failures point to an inexpensive small chip in the power supply. Sharp could have used a better quality chip, it might cost an additional 2 cents, and it would make the TV last forever.

USA will have no choice but to adopt a Chinese-style water diversion project. Right now it is not possible because of state-dictated water laws. But when push comes to shove, it will be done. What they need is a bigger crisis and/or a stronger leader. Trump could have done it, but he is too old and too shortsighted, he was more interested in self pride than the long term good of the country. He could have made america great again; he made china great instead.

. . . then came the Chinese

My latest computer is an HP. It is my biggest mistake.

The Arizona fab is a fool's game. It is the politicians' way of saying I have done my bit. It is money down the drain.

The same problem is in India -- a handful of landlords holding the majority of the fertile land.
1
UK is the same, but no one dares to say anything, because the land owners are the royal family and privileged nobility.
1
In Holland, there is a conspiracy to drive the individual land owners out of business, so that the big corps can takeover.
