  1. It is all Khrushchev's fault. He should have drawn the border along ethnic lines. But he was naive; he thought people got along with each other. Before Khrushchev, who allotted the Crimean Peninsula to the Socialist Republic of Ukraine in 1954, there was Lenin, who "gave" the Ukrainians historically Russian territories in 1922.
