I like Nicole's comments about how she found it to be very difficult to write software in a new company. This is usually due to bureaucratic restrictions put on developers by corporate IT. At one of my clients I was tasked with automating the creation of custom virtual machines on Azure. I did it first on my personal Azure account because I had no restrictions in my personal account and was done in a little over 2 hours. When I tried this on the corporate Azure account it took nearly 3 weeks and multiple calls to Azure support because of the restrictions corporate IT put on developers using Azure. We weren't allowed to create Resource Groups which led to piece meal removing of restrictions. It never worked with the restrictions corporate IT put on us.

I don't think that is a good analogy. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance. Corporate bureaucracy is a huge pain point and removing it would bring a lot of relief.

@dafyddrees2287 Yes, corporate bureaucracy makes the C levels feel comfortable while trusting their engineers is just unthinkable to them. Like a life without cigarettes is unthinkable for a nicotine addict. So in that sense the analogy works.
