  1. JWST will collect 1 photon per second in the IR from its desired IR source. But there are many bright IR sources in the sky. How will JSWT avoid being overloaded by these other IR sources (stars)?

  2. There is another obvious alternative: The canard configuration. In a canard configuration the horizontal stabilizer is in front and it provides lift to stabilize the aircraft instead of negative lift as shown when the horizontal stabilizer is in the back. The Beechcraft Starship from the mid 1980s was a commercial canard configuration airplane. I understand there are also stability challenges with a canard configuration, but it would preserve the tube and eliminate many pressure cycle related problems.
