Bret Stephens talks about Afghanistan as if there was a sliver lining to it, but ignores that it was a terrible failure of the US policing the world. He also seems to think that the Vietnam War was somehow justified. He invokes Pol Pot in Cambodia? We were never engaged officially in Cambodia, except for a brief period of time. Stephens thinks we should have stayed in Afghanistan and Vietnam. I would like to know how many of the people in Stephens circle of friends and work colleagues have children serving in the military.

Muscle cars do, but I don't think that guy could fit into a muscle car comfortably. He probably drives a minivan with a front seat the moves way back.

@nealorr5086 - But his larger point is that the US pays a disproportionate amount for NATO's defense. Germany, France, The Netherlands, etc. need to pay a fair share.

@samdg1234 - We are talking about the military, not domestic policing. You can be in favor of a policy without being personally involved, but you must be willing to bear part of the burden. Too many people want others to bear the burden while they enjoy the benefits while being insulated from any costs.

And yet Bari and her colleagues at the Free Press and NYT continue to support the party that supports Iran. Iran is why Hamas invaded Israel, and the Democrats enable Iran. Speeches won't stop anti-semitism. We have to vote Iran's enablers out of power and keep them out of power.

Mahmood Mamdani is disingenuous when he says that there hasn't been a rise in anitsemitism. His claim that anti-Zionism is not antisemitism is a smoke screen for the outburst of Jew hatred. Trapping Jewish students inside Cooper Union puts the lie to the idea that what he supports isn't Jew hatred.

I believe that was Eisenhower. What is less known and even more important is that in the same speech Eisenhower warned of the dangers of a technological elite who could manipulate and exert undue influence over the people. That is where the threat comes from today, for example with Google manipulating search results to favor a candidate or a news media that has become a propaganda organ.

@nealorr5086 - Oh, I didn't know I committed a mortal sin by criticizing Saint Brett Stephens. My last statement is a very relevant question. If Stephens, et. al. want the US to police the world they should bear some of the burden. If not themselves their immediate families should be personally involved. James Kirchik invoked World War II as an example of the US policing the world. During WWII we had a universal draft. There was mass volunterism. President Roosevelt's nephew landed in Normandy on D-Day. There were many celebrities like Jimmy Stewart who served in dangerous combat roles. The rich and famous were not insulated from the war. Compare that to today. How many children of the rich and famous serve in the military? How many of Kirchik's children or Stephens children have served? I'm not saying I'm against using the US military to deter war and tragedy. But the burden should be wide spread. Especially to policy makers and pundits.

Peggy Noonan is a pathetic never-Trumper. She's pious about herself and those she likes, but venomous about those who she doesn't like. In addition to hating Trump, Peggy was particularly spiteful and petty towards Sarah Palin. Peggy did everything she could to get Biden elected, but never took responsibility for her poor judgement. The fact that Bari Weiss slobbers praise on Peggy Noonan is another reason to question Bari's judgement.

Why would Trump or any of his advisors listen to someone who holds them in deepest contempt?
