  1. Peter's analysis relies too much on extrapolating the present into the future. The Germans, like people everywhere, will adapt to changing circumstances. Remember when Russia shut off natural gas to Germany? People were saying that Germans would freeze the next winter, but that didn't happen. Within 6 months the Germans had built LNG terminals and natural gas pipelines that normally would have taken years to build.. They suspended environmental regulations and worked around the clock. That is what highly educated and skilled workforces do. It's hard to predict how people will adapt to changing economic circumstances, but you can be sure that Germany will adapt.
