The fact that they allow private companies to manage these tells you everything you need to know. The corruption is infinite. My jaw dropped when this poor woman said they were charging her $900. That's unbelievable. That's cheaper than where I live but I doubt that's cheap in Akron, especially for something that should be condemned. They should be paying HER to live there. Now if slumlording was a class B or class C felony with up to 2 years confinement if found guilty, I bet you'd see this kind of shit stop real quick. But overall rent in general needs to be attacked ruthlessly by the Left in this country. It won't go away, we won't be that lucky, but it needs to be something that's thought of that should be as LOW as possible, not as HIGH as possible. The number one reason why 40% of this country lives in poverty or a low income status is because of their rent. Up to 70% of residents in some areas are overly rent-burdened. Rent should be either a low set rate based on number of bedrooms or dwelling category, or a universal limit such as no more than 20% of ones take-home income.

Friend of mine is black and 70 years old and he lived in Akron before and thru the Civil Rights era. He says even back then it wasn't like this. His heart goes out to the young woman in the video and he's going to pray for her and he wishes her success. He hasn't lived there in 30 years, he's been out here in California, but I showed him some of these videos lately that we've been watching together and it's been a real hard process for him to see how things have changed for poor communities and COC I Akron since he was young. Probably started shortly after Reagan was elected like everything else. He said it was different back in the 50s 60s and 70s. It was far from perfect, there was always that background of privileged whiteness to deal with, but it was a much more just environment back then he feels, much more responsive to the working class. They had a more active and engaged multiracial working class solidarity he says. So yeah he's pretty sad to see that clearly over the past 40 years neoliberalism and overfunding of police departments has taken its sad toll on the community that he grew up in.

DEFUND ALL STREET POLICE. They are domestic terrorist units and death squads. They are local standing armies meant to terrorize, kill and subjugate poor communities and communities of color. REFUND OUR COMMUNITIES

Local media is just a PR machine for the city council and the local PD.
