  6. You're a little too fascist. If kids wish to soft-cut class so to speak I say let them. If they end up getting a bad grade they'll deal with it. You don't know what some students are dealing with. They might have a legitimate reason for needing to go take care of something and not feel like sharing it. But even if they're just going to chat or take some time off, did you never do that when you were in high school? It's really not a big deal imo. you could choose not to be bent out of shape about it and focus on the other 29 students that are in the class that are trying to learn whatever you're there to teach. I think most minor things should just be overlooked. Some students have ADHD, some students just want to step away for a moment. You don't have to see this as a problem you can choose to look past it. I would. As long as they're not being disruptive in class I don't see the big issue with it. I don't think kids should be tracked taking breaks after all whether or not they pass the class is a consequence that they choose. If they choose to step outside of class for a while and not get that instruction that is their choice. Ultimately if that ends up causing them a problem with their grade that's their consequence to deal with. So ultimately they will deal with consequences of their choices. As long as students aren't being violent or dangerous I think we should let them do what they feel they need to do to get through the day. Some students are dealing with a lot at home and just need time to vent or time by themselves. They could be on the autism spectrum. As I said they could be ADHD. I personally don't have a big problem giving kids breaks during class and I think it's not something that should be escalated into a major issue.
