Heard about this recently on a Left podcast I listen to, and also heard about the problems with Oregon using these facilities for foster youth and in the juvenile courts and the wholly avoidable trauma they caused. I also remember an article from maybe 20 years ago that talked about abuse and incompetence at these place so clearly the truth was starting to come out then, but unclear what if any action that lead to. You all are very brave to share your voice. Thank you very much for speaking up and speaking out about these extreme experiences. I can't imagine how difficult these they must have been for all of you. Have any of you considered civil lawsuits and trying to press any criminal charges? It might be worth it to try even if the SOL is passed. I would say every survivor deserves a generous settlement from the scum who run and profit from the abuse/neglect they cause. I can't believe there was and still is ZERO regulation and oversight and licensing requirements in this sector. The entire private rehab/care facility industry is a cesspool of predation, scamming, and corruption. I mean why shouldn't it be when there's so much money to be made and when lawmakers can be so easily bought??? Private youth care facilities should be illegal!

Wow that's a powerful story, EN. I'm sure you did the best you could. I'm sorry you had to experience this kind of abusive environment as an observer, knowing how wrong and misguided it was and not being able to really do anything about it. The problem is lawmakers won't do their job bec they're scum too! Most of them are craven corrupt utterly self-serving sociopaths. They take the bribes or payoffs to have ZERO regulation or look the other way. State workers won't properly vet or review these places, EVEN THO VULNERABLE CHILDREN ARE DEPENDING ON THEM, it's just a failure on all levels. Stories like this constantly remind me how disgraceful and shameful and derelict most State workers are, elected or not. Maybe now FINALLY things can change. I know how to change it with one fell swoop. When you need to kill the snake, you do it by cutting off the head. And you know what would solve this entirely at the root? No private providers in the congregated are industry!!! NONE!!! I can see that these kinds of places are a DELIBERATE racket and maybe only the Baptist Church has sincere intentions even tho they're were abusive and maybe just can't recognize it- or maybe they can and they're just as corrupt too. Either way, private providers shouldn't be allowed in this field! Profit-seeking has no place where vulnerable people and youth are concerned!! It attracts the vultures, the sociopaths, the ignorant and the incompetent, deliberate or otherwise. It's so sad most of our lawmakers are just as worthless and corrupt as the sources they take bribes from. Because if they weren't this wouldn't have happened in the first place due to stringent regs and licensing and none of these con jobs and abuse factories would have been able to pass muster, or just wouldn't have been legal period. It's just disgusting that so many white-collar vultures were allowed to shamelessly profit from the hardship and mistreatment of youth for so long. They weren't even TRYING to help the kids. I can forgive genuine ignorance, but most if not all of their stories indicated deliberate crookedness, incompetence, or predation. It's shameful that none of those who committed the worst offenses will ever face criminal charges.

Just read the rest of my posts and you'll see I've definitely am not trying to minimize or excuse any of this kind of behavior or treatment of youth and I'm very sorry if it came off that way. I just try to imagine perhaps if some of them are truly confused and think they're helping as in not necessarily malicious or evil per se; I don't ever want to excuse abuse of any kind but I just wonder some confused people truly don't understand why what they're doing is wrong. But again I'm very very sorry if it seemed like I was in any way trying to minimize the abuse and the harm that any of these programs do. And I want ALL survivors to get the full justice and compensation they deserve. I'm going to continue following this and I hope to hear more in the future. I'd like to know currently if you or others who are currently speaking out (I forgot during the interview if you mentioned it) but if there are currently any lawsuits underway and are there any criminal charges that survivors are trying to press to be brought against some of the individuals who run these programs?
