I don't mean to keep beating a dead horse but there's a non-invasive treatment called neurofeedback that is supposed to be permanent. You may be interested in reading more about it.

I would love to hear from those who've had success stories on their particular ADHD med

What's wrong with camping lol?

Hey I'm so sorry to that you deal with this. Have you ever considered using supervised psychedelics or just taking them yourself? Also have you heard of neurofeedback, a non-invasive ADHD treatment?

@MrWhatever1234567 it sounds like you've experienced childhood trauma. Have you ever considered seeking the help of a qualified therapist? It's hard for us to overcome trauma on our own.

Damn that's amazing. That's exactly what I was wanting to hear. I started taking Vyvanse for a couple of months back in 2006 I believe, and then I fell off of it and just never tried to get back on or considered using ADHD meds until recently. I'm certain if I had they would have made a big difference. I'm hoping for a big turnaround at age 40 lol. I mean I have overcome a lot in my life and I feel have accomplished a lot especially given the setbacks I've had but yeah, I guess these meds really do work. I've been trying to do it all with natural supplements, willpower, and discipline and while that's helped some, it just doesn't seem enough. Not in my case I guess. I've recently started a natural thyroid medication that seems to have helped with physical energy and some focus. Of course the brain and body are linked, so that's to be expected, but I imagine a direct neurological stimulant would have even more direct effects.

Yes of course. Of course you could try one of the medications or consider take starting neurofeedback. Just look up info on it in your area and you'll see.

@aprilhassell1747 many side effects are minor or don't arise in some people and dependency is a debatable issue. Are we dependent on food?? because if we don't eat it you know, eventually we will die? So would you call that a dependency? If people can function better with a stable medication then I think they should have access to it.

@user-zt4zr7eg6z unfortunately I haven't been able to get to it yet. Hopefully soon. I found a pretty reasonable practitioner near me so I hope to start the protocol in the next few months.

@MrWhatever1234567 interesting. Have you tried to increase your dosage to see if maybe that would help? Well I have some new news to share, just last week I tried Adderall for the first time. Would you believe it had a wacky reaction with me and really threw me for a loop?? boy oh boy looks like I'm going to have to try one of the other ones because the Big A didn't work very well for me. I tried up to 70mg XR and no meaningful cognitive benefit but a huge negative emotional affect. Like it really threw me into a crisis of emotional depression. Anyhow I'm fine now I've used up my whole months prescription trying it out over the first week. It's filtered out of my system and I'm coming back to a nice steady baseline. I've had a miserable life and I can stay nice and even on most days by focusing on the present, even though most of my memories are miserable, but clearly adderal made it too difficult for me to maintain that purposeful equilibrium. So that wasn't very pleasant. Did not expect such a strong reaction I can tell you. Guess I'm just not gonna be the Adderall type. That's okay I hope to try dexedrine next.

Everyone has to make their own judgment if a given medication is for them or not. Some people have been helped by these. I don't think it's fair or accurate to say they're all bad for every person. Just listen to those who say the right ADHD med help them get their life on track. Nothing works perfectly for every person. Some people do better with a non-pharmaceutical approach. It's more complicated than they're all bad or they're all good. Big Pharma does a lot of bad, I fully agree, but the right meds in the right circumstances can save lives.

Yes of course there's always natural supplements. And have you heard of neurofeedback?

Perhaps they can prescribe you another ADHD stimulant med like adderal. I hear that adderal is a slow-release throughout the day? I don't know of adderal has a maximum but then again they can't tell how much you're using it home, although of course if you run out sooner I guess they will only refill you only so often.

I used to think I was mildly narcoleptic when I was younger. I used to have trouble staying awake if I was bored even if I didn't feel very tired. If I was tired it was that much. It seems to have gone away as I've gotten older. I'm 40 now and I don't really notice it anymore. I'm going to get started on a full protocol of Neurofeedback in a couple of months and I'm very optimistic that this will give me marked gains and improvement if not resolution of my current ADHD symptoms.
