Yep. Hasn't happened in more or less forever. Only a hardy few good ones ever actually seem to make it into govt at most levels.

@AdamRitchie2 well the problem is the State isn't going anywhere so it's better we agitate and activate and get what we can out of it. Some decent things have been done by the State in the past. Basically the New Deal, the occupation of the South, the civil rights act (altho it came 100 years too late), and NASA.... And that's about it. I believe with enough action we can do better.

@AdamRitchie2 yes I hope more and more people will refuse to pay any taxes other than they themselves wish to provide. Taxes should be mandatory on top 5-10% and all big corps, voluntary for the rest of us. I'm all for far greater public goods, but we're being extorted with little to no say in how any of the money is spent. I don't agree with that. I'm pretty poor, but even if I come up significantly, I will utterly refuse to pay the State what they demand. I will continue to support the institutions I agree with, but no more. Im tired of these goons demanding people's servitude and unquestioned obedience. I don't care if I go to jail for standing up for the people's rights. I'd prefer not to but I'm prepared to. We have to be willing to refuse to comply with demands or practices we disagree with. Unless I have a gun my head, I'm not complying anymore. Just because the would-be masters demand something doesn't mean they deserve to get it. I'm not talking about idiotic stuff like masks, those make sense and only idiots oppose them; I'm talking about very important matters that matter. Taxes and the way a State choose to finance itself is one of those. I'm basically a smart Libertarian. I believe in Socialistic policies with direct democracy at all levels and a limited State that most people can consent to and participate if they so choose.

@Humanistic_ Never say never. Stay engaged and pissed off. Then agitate, organize, vote, and continue speaking out. I believe the the age of dominance by these clever assholes is coming a lot sooner than they want anyone to believe.

@AdamRitchie2 even cities have elite-serving city boards whom most or all care little to nothing for the poor, low-income or homeless. I'm not sure if even the cities are democratic- you know how corrupt major metro urban areas are. Now smaller communities, sure; a lot more hand-in-hand collaboration can be had there; but the big and medium-sized cities remain a challenge.

@AdamRitchie2 Nah I think I have a really good view that balances the need to end avoidable poverty and homelessness, redistribute wealth downwards, and maximize liberty. I don't think it's possible or even desirable to fully get rid of govt. There has to be some central management of public issues. Who would protect the environment, national parks, and endangered species for one? Respond to natural disasters? Regulate predatory corporations?? Set labor standards?? Only govt can do this. I'm not saying the current good-for-nothings in govt do a good job of this, just that these are the jobs of public governance (or management if you will). If you think private companies can do these things better, that's been proven wrong 100 times. That's a fallacy. Once you put profit motives (usually the "profit-at-all-costs" motive) into where it doesn't belong, into things that should be done for the public good, you get very bad outcomes. PGE and CA proves this, and they still haven't been held accountable by the gov (because they paid him off, of course, it's the same story everywhere). The freezing disaster this past Feb in TX is another. The evil scum at ERCOT refused to do necessary maintenance on TXs power grid so in a severe winter storm it failed and over 200 people froze to death, 1000s others incurred serious damaged to their homes from burst pipes or what have you. To make matters worse, the evil GOP gov Ted Abbot willingly removed the entire state grid from the rest of the country's grid (this way federal authorities couldn't force him to do vital and necessary maintenance which his owners/friends/bribers at ERCOT didn't want to do); which resulted in the entire state having no backup and thus nowhere to supply power if or when it fails, which of course it did. Abbott is indirectly responsible for all those peoples deaths, and ERCOT is directly responsible. These are the tragedies that happen when vital public goods are privatized. I wish I could trust these corporations out here but they constantly prove how corrupt they are and how they only give a damn about maximizing profit, human welfare be damned This is a more extreme example but stuff like this happens all the time in this country, all the time.

@AdamRitchie2 I 100% agree with everything you just said. I'm hoping that we can get better people in the future into govt positions- becuz if not then I don't know where things will end up, but it's not going to good for most of us.

@AdamRitchie2 I agree the current people are total sociopaths and all kinds of scum with only a tiny few having any decency at all. I'm just hoping this can change and halfway decent people can be elected or placed in positions of "public management" in the future. I don't see the alternative. Let's ask ourselves, is the State going to voluntarily pack up and go home??? If we can shrink the State and make it's functions more ethical, moral and/or responsible- then that's a good goal. Maybe it won't happen in our lifetime but what's the alternative for a goal???

@AdamRitchie2 I know that the federal govt is a bunch of goons and blood-drinking sociopathic ghouls and reptiles, but some of what they do, a small amount, is good. The VA, OSHA, and social security are all good. People depend on them and need them. The EPA and FDA could be good if they weren't bought off and intentionally sabotaged. Like I said before, the national parks are a treasure, and I believe the BofLM serves a positive purpose. The CDC has some issues and some corrupt people but they also serve a critical need for public health. FEMA sadly is worthless and proves it every time. But its worthless bec trash people are in it. ICE is the Gestapo and Nazi and fascist central, same for DHS and the DEA as far as I'm concerned. I don't agree with drugs being criminalized for all the usual serious reasons that I'm sure you're familiar with. I don't know. I think we just have to keep trying to elect better people to DC AND do everything else to improve our local communities and states. Destroyers and the uber-corrupt will always draw together, both in private enterprise and govt, but that doesn't mean ethical people can't also seek public office or roles, and get them. I don't think every ethical politician or senior-level employee will be corrupted. I don't know if I'm ready to make that assumption.

@AdamRitchie2 I don't think it's that simple. I'd say 97% of the fed gov is either wholly corrupt or grossly evil. But there are a few administrative departments that do good, and could do much better under even slightly more moral leadership internally and from the WH. These include the bureaus I've mentioned and probably a few others. Overall I agree it's a degenerate cesspool tho. But, there's nothing your or I can do personally about it. We can refuse to pay federal taxes if we're eligible. We can choose to vote for only Left third parties, but that may help the GOP win in tight Pres races and we really don't want that. I hate the corporate Demcucks but we don't have much choice right now and these fucksticks know it. Its a fucking quandary. The way I see it is, we have to just continue to do what we want and we can on a local and state level. Get our private lives in order- THEN ORGANIZE. Mutual aid. Volunteer. Get more education, etc. Organize with Left parties and advocacy groups. Work on our mental reflexes. Etc. And getting armed and learning to shoot never hurt. I don't think any real armed civil conflicts are going to happen in our lifetime- but you never know. It never hurts to be able to have some basic comfort of using arms. I don't have it yet myself but I'm planning on working towards it in the near future.

Just left Salem two years ago I'm hopeful for the future but dismayed about the present. I still do not see anyone in power granting the homeless human rights and helping them, or making any real pushback against the continued cancerous growth of PDs and fine system abuse and overall mass or semi-mass incarceration. Altho I don't know much currently what's happening in Portland metro.
