@riclatham5869 the SCOTUS has almost always served and slobbered at the foot of big business, aka large corps. But then again, the whole govt was built by and created for the wealthy and ultra-wealthy elite. I'm sure there were a few reps or senators over the years that didn't come from priveleged families but probably not many.
Not a whole ton has really changed. And today we're more of an oligarchy then we've ever been.
How many SCOTUS judges ever came from a poor home??? Even lower court judges are usually priveleged. I doubt many have ever known real struggle; which gives them no experience to have any empathy with poor and disabled people who might come before them. When the ravages of greed/capitalism are so brutal, it's always the poor and most vulnerable that are hurt the most, but most judges have no sympathy for them. Record numbers of evictions proceeded across the country even with the so-called moratorium in place.
A poor person can almost NEVER get justice or even compassion in America, where the rich ownership class rules and only money matters.
I heard of an elderly blind man being evicted for smoking one single cigarette inside his unit in the middle of the pandemic. I hope I got some of the details wrong on that story and I'm misremembering it. It made me sick to read it. He told the judge he would be homeless if evicted, he lives only on his SSI, and was still evicted. It was hard for me to believe what I was reading.
It's really hard to get out from under rule by the rich and very rich- but I hope we can. Otherwise, not to be too dramatic or negative; but dystopia for anyone in the bottom 60% awaits. The casual and deliberate cruelty and apathy I see readily displayed throughout all levels of our court systems is literally revolting.
But I have no respect for the SCOTUS. They are the most priveleged of all, working for what keeps them priveleged and rich, not for you and me.
Anyways I don't respect or believe in the institution. Too much power for just a few people; all too easily compromised and appointed to serve narrow special agendas. I want it gone. Not that Congress is much better, but at least there's 435 of them. Matters of legality can be settled by voting on bills.
Just because nine racists said black people were inferior in Dred Scott, didn't make what they said true or moral.
I think it would be best if the SCOTUS was disbanded. It's nine kings with total power versus one.
Nah, no thanks. I really just don't agree with that.
