Well the problem starts with our politicians. If we want better laws that help protect people from themselves (if that's what we say we want) then we need to elect better people who won't sell themselves for a song and a glass of cheap wine. As that seems impossible, we are ALWAYS going to be on our own here. At a minimum, all sports betting outlets should be taxed out the wazoo. Secondly, there should be limits on how much any person should be allowed to bet at any one time and have frequently in a given 24 hour and 7 day. I'm sure there are plentiful other good regulations that we can enact besides these. With heavy regulation I don't have a problem with gambling establishments they just need to be properly controlled. I'm also not sure people should be able to access them from their cell phone. I do think that's a little too much accessibility. I'm fine with online and internet betting, from a desktop console but I do feel that the maximum amount anyone can bet or lose at any given time should be limited by law, and there should be limits to how many times they can participate in a given week. So I would start there. No smartphone or personal phone access, only desktop or in person access and limits on participation. And of course not to be forgotten, extreme taxation locally and statewide of these establishments.
