She made an honest mistake. Maybe she wasnt properly trained but I wouldn't fire her over this. Her manager can just remind her to always count everything right before you put it in the drawer no matter what. If she can do that from now on she'll be fine.

@grantbooher7 lol. I think everyone gets the freedom to make a first mistake. if she keeps on doing it well that's a different story.

@harout k I mean, assuming she wasn't in on it, how is she to know what he was planning? She shouldn't have looked away from the money we both agree on that but should she just assume every customer might try to pull a fast one? Well yes I guess so but at that moment clearly she presumed him to be what he seemed to be a normal customer making a regular transaction. But yeah you can never be too careful in this world obviously. But you're claiming that she should have somehow known what he was going to do. How so? He didn't really give away anything through his body language not that I could see. Other than taking a general precaution against everyone by keeping the money secure at all times, in the moment how would any of us "know"? we can't read minds is all I'm saying. if he acted like any other customer how is an average cashier supposed to know "oh he's definitely planning something"? That's all I'm saying.

@harout k I agree but I just explained why she didn't in that moment. People make small mistakes. I'm sure from now on she will be more careful.

@onceyouwheeinyoucantwheeout indeed. I doubt she'll make this mistake again.

@happity lol. Yeah well it hasn't come to that yet but you know I guess if I had no other option at the moment I would do it if I needed to.
2
@harout k we can't say for sure she knew

You sound just like a Karen. Maybe she received improper training did you ever think of that? Or maybe she just didn't think that she was dealing with a scammer. Has nothing to do with laziness or nihilism. Your comment reeks of privilege and Boomerism.

But wait how exactly would that work? Would you secretly grab other people's payments or.... ? I'm just curious. I'm not saying I would necessarily do it, but it doesn't hurt to have a few tricks up your sleeve. I've been broke too many times in my life due to various circumstances not to want to be armed with all possible knowledge out there that could help me squeak by.
1
@happity eh you never know. I try to always do right by people but I've been hard up before. When you get desperate you try different things.

@pizza799 not really. Come off it Mr. Perfect.

@LuciferWrld999 I'm sure he anticipated that and had some kind of response ready and either would have declined to the sale or produced the rest of the money. Why say lock him up tho? two grand isn't all that much. Small claims courts go up to 10 grand. I always think it's adorable how our law considers corporate profit sacrosanct, but if somebody in my life defrauds me to the tune of $10,000 they don't get any criminal charges but I can sue them in small claims civil court.
1
@LuciferWrld999 lol it's not really crime to me to defraud a large corporation. Two grand is nothing to them. They have insurance for loss due to death after damage they'll be fine. If small claims courts can go up to 10K then when you're dealing with a large business entity with high profit margins, 2K to me is petty theft. I feel my landlord defrauds me every month by overcharging me about $1500. Sure the law allows them to do so but that doesn't make it right. And how much time should he do for hurting the poor struggling business of Kay Jewelers? 2 months? 6 months? 1,000 years? How near and dear to your heart is the big business of Kay Jewelers to you???

@DpsRagerTM she should always count it herself I agree. True sleight of hand would have been counting it out to her but then slipping the bills back under his hand somehow like real magicians do. But he just picked them back up real quick. But yeah I mean every cashier should always know you must count the bills yourself and be the last person who touches the money before putting it in the drawer.

@Founderschannel123 it's possible he only used two or three large bills so that after they were removed at a casual glance the stack didn't look much different and if she was preoccupied it probably wouldn't feel much different. I thought about that at first too but then I figured he must have done it with large bills bc multiple small bills would certainly make a more noticeable difference.
1
@Founderschannel123 it's certainly possible. He definitely planned out this particular 'op'.

@AlphaQHard shutup Karen

@AlphaQHard Calm down there Boomer. Who cares if he owns or doesn't own? Wherever he works at a job I'm sure he puts in the effort necessary to earn his paycheck. Pipe down over there Karen no one asked for the Boomer POV.

@ferninthehouse he took a risk. Now you may not agree with it or think it's ethical but he def took a risk and I admire that kind of hutzpah.
1
@ferninthehouse yah but that's what I do. I mean I think if you take a risk you earn the reward. I mean isn't that what business owners say? I took a risk and starting this business so that's why I deserve 99.9999999% of any money that it ever earns? Because they took a risk when starting it is what they always say. and I would agree in a lot of cases they did take some level of risk. So if risk should be rewarded in business why shouldn't it be rewarded in other activities?
