Also the Taliban seized power in '96, partially due to the assistance they had received from Reagan and Bush41 in the '80s. Democracy had nothing to do with it. They have always been fundamentalist warlords and it is my opinion and view based on my information that most of the country does not want to be fundamentalist even among those that are Muslim, nor live under Taliban rule.

The difference is the Taliban are now back in charge thanks to Trump, the neo-nazis aren't, and that has me conflicted about ending this occupation right now altho I do support leaving if and after Afganistan could reach a decent level of stability. I don't want a forever occupation, but I'm totally against walking away after Trump basically re-installed the Tali-fucks thru his (to me) amoral meetings and agreements with them. But it's undeniable the many aspects of this ongoing occupation that were absolutely counterproductive if not outright immoral and on war crime levels.

No that's exactly correct- and has been for a long time. They almost exclusively serve the heavy corporate class, the very rich and well off, and the 5-6 major companies connected with the military sector. Add in some super-racist talk about needing to make our southern border more militarized then the DMZ because latin-american migrants and asylum-seekers are demonized and hated by all the racists in the general public and those in gov who willingly cater to them; plus generous amounts of drug war propaganda and mass incarceration; you basically have the US govt as I've known them all my adult life. I mean I give Obama credit for at least doing Obamacare, but even that was a total corporate giveaway, it wasn't anywhere near universal health are, altho it did help some people and it can be better than typical, private-market insurance.

I look forward to getting all perspectives on this difficult issue. I guess I'm the only one of the hard Left that believes we should return until the Taliban is gone for good. As a vet (not front line just navy) I have some strong feelings about all this. This is the only issue I feel there truth on both sides, altho I only care what the vets and SOME of the higher ups in the branches have to say, obviously the top people at the Pentagon and the Right are going to try to exploit this issue against Biden for all it's worth, and they are hardly a source of principled or good-faith arguments on this or any other issue.

@puravidadew7031 actually to my knowledge they are relatively recent, only taking shape out of the '80s and after they were intentionally juiced up by the US to fight against the Soviets who entered in 1979 to provide support for the then-communist central govt in Kabul. I support putting them down like savage dogs because they are savage and deny humanity and equality to women and oppose everything that makes life worth living, including education, sports, and entertainment. Basically they are militant cultists like all islamofascist totalitarian stone age primitives. Nazis came from Germany only in the 1930s but that didn't stop the Allies from uniting to stop them. Then the US briefly occupied Germany after the war, then the USSR took over East Germany a little later. Im the opposite of a predatory neocon or US supremacist, but two things can be true at the same time. All the warlords sound like demons, and even if some of the Taliban aren't as bad as those guys, they are nazis IMO and deserve to be removed. MAGAs are native to America, would you like to see the KKK or other violent extremist groups here in power? I would hope not. Thanks for your comment.

@puravidadew7031 I'm not sure I agree with Russia not being there. I agree in general regions have the right to have their autonomy and right to self-determination respected, but not when savages and extremists are in power. I support political intervention when it's for legitimately humanitarian reasons. Nobody should be allowed to keep a country in the dark ages or oppress any group of people. I'm not saying the Soviets entered with only purely atruistic goals in mind, that would be unrealistic, ofc they had some selfish and political reasons, but it seems they also had at least some unselfish motives also. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's where I'm at with this at the moment.

@Flike245 Two things can be true at the same time. There were problems with the occupation to say the least, AND the Tali-fascists are NOT the good guys. Everything isn't black and white. Are you able to look critically at these issues and recognize that things are not always as simple as we want them to be? What if we stayed out of WW2, if all military action is "always" immoral??? Can it be that intervention for moral reasons is justified, if they are legitimately humanitarian or similar, and intervention for selfish profit without concern for violence caused or lives lost on either side, is wrong?? Is there nuance in life??

@Flike245 it's because I know them I'm 40 and a 9/11 era US vet. I was in the early campaigns twice in the region, tho not in the ground. Not slaughtered necessarily, I'd settle for removal. You don't have the experience with this issue that I do. You're acting like they're the good guys. I guess you just don't know who they are and what they want, which is a fundamentalist ultra cultist theocratic dictatorship. I've explained in other comments why they are only good for themselves and bad for everyone else. Even if they never kill anyone, they STILL have no right to rule; as they refuse to recognize the equality and humanity of women and respect their rights, first of all. Most are illiterate with no education and doubtful ability to manage ordinary govt functions, last time they held power they immediately cancelled all access to everything secular such as all entertainments and sports activities. I'm not sure if they restricted access to libraries. Basically they steal everyone's rights, just more from the women then men. Yes. For those reasons, in my mind, they deserve two options, surrender or death. You go try to live with/under them for five minutes, and I think you would see how extremely oppressive and totalitarian it is. But feel free to do your own research, you don't have to take it from me. And I don't buy for 5 seconds they have changed, like some are claiming. That's deeply laughable, just a ploy for the gullible. They want to live like a stone age savage, which I wouldn't mind, but then they ALSO want to force everyone else to do it too, which I most certainly DO mind and is wholly unacceptable and why I didn't want us to leave unless and until they could be fully neutralized once and for all. As to who they are, they like to do forced marriages with girls as young as 13 or 14. They consider them "adults" at age 14. Pedophilia is rampant in Islam, and it all started with their "prophet" who according to all reports got married to a 9 year old when he was around 50. Sick huh? I'm not saying all Muslims agree with pedophilia, Bec I know that's not true, but clearly many do for precisely this reason. Yeah, these people don't deserve the mean labels I give them. Sure. @Dowlphin I've had a couple incidents of those shadowbans, a while apart. It took me a second each time to figure out why I couldn't post. I saw my account wasn't cancelled like all my previous ones had been, so it was puzzling me at first why my posts weren't showing up, but I did get it, lol. Yeah it's a mess. I've lost 5-6 great accounts with ZERO prior warning just a TOTAL ban one day and of course any appeal attempts were useless. I don't mind the cancelled comments as much as the knee-jerk account cancelling and then you lose all your data along with it. Wasteful, unnecessary, and purposefully malicious if you ask me. Totally unnecessary. You can remove temporary posting priveledges from users for ant length of time without deleting all their information, most or all of which is likely to be completely acceptable. It's really a shame how destructive, disrespectful and wasteful the new policies are. If they could just stop the rampant account terminations or at least provides warnings beforehand and fair methods for getting them restored, I would be fine with it. The comment blockers are annoying, but I could live with that, the bullshit and capricious ways that accounts and creators are treated however I think is pretty shit and unfair.

I didn't hear about this. Do you remember where you heard it? This is why we need to remove them once and for all and that's not imperialism, that's just protecting the people we have assurances to. Trump put the Tali-fucks back in charge, it's a crying shame Biden didn't go 180 on that plan. @layinlow77 I'm not sure they necessarily grew stronger. You are aware how Trump set them up for a complete takeover last year right? They aren't super-soldiers. If we wanted to eliminate them completely I'm sure we could have. Our forces didn't, and that could only be intentional, and I have to wonder why. They even offered a surrender in 2001; but ofc Rumsfeld rejected that, I assume because he wanted them still there as an excuse to continue to invade and occupy. He and Cheney wanted war for profit's sake. I'm just now starting this video, I'll see if I feel any differently by the end of it.

@layinlow77 yeah it's all coming out now like poison, tho I was getting bits and pieces over the past 5-10 years, but after I got out of the military in 2006 after 8 years I never thought all that much about Afganistan again, since I was never parts of the boots on ground; unless it popped up in the news for some reason. I think there's idealists like me in a few higher up positions that got caught up in it and honestly wanted to stop the bad guys and create something positive. I think they wanted to be seen liberators. Unfortunately it seems clear now they were greatly outnumbered by this other contingent of much more powerful private and public interests who were corrupt, predatory, self-serving, or homicidally-incompetent and incomprehensibly illogical. (Or alternatively, nobody in a senior position was altruistic and that's just my delusion, and everybody with some authority was simply a fucker.)

How could this not have been articulated ever?? Ok, to keep the Taliban at bay- but that's wasn't the primary mission, just a byproduct; and to the extent that occurred I'm glad; because in the regions it did women and Afghans in general were able to resume their more-or-less normal lives. But now we hear about these warlords who were hardly better than the Tali-fucks in many cases if not worse. I mean we really are the Evil Empire. We did a partial liberation if that, and we set up these pedophiles and demons to rule with just as much an iron fist as anyone else and when they begged us for help we did nothing?!? Fucking god. Not to mention the CIA-sponsored Afghan-staffed death squads and how many locals were terrorized by night raids both them and our US special forces. So we really are absolutely evil and while our individual soldiers and ground commanders may have wanted to do the right thing or a good thing, no doubt much of the Pentagon higher-ups clearly could care less. The totality of all this information is an serious fuck And I still didn't want to leave with a Tali-fuck takeover as that isn't acceptable to me either I guess like all these other good people are saying it really really WAS for no other reason than JUST to make the defense contractors rich, while 1000s of servicemen died or contracted PTSD and something like 50,000 or more Afghans died as a result of our involvement, either directly or indirectly. It is really hard for me to wrap my head around that kind of industrial level disvaluation of human life, but I guess it's part for the course for US empire. I know some of the military commanders legitimately had unselfish motives, at least I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on that, but clearly those at the very top, most certainly the CIA, very much did not.

I don't disagree with most of your statement but the Taliban are extremely bad news and if you don't think so, you're nuts and have eaten the insanely misguided "pro-taliban" propaganda that seems to be getting passed around at the moment. The US committed MANY sins while we over there and I don't want any of those minimized, and those who deliberately did wrong should pay, regardless of their station, but that doesn't make the Taliban good by comparison. They aren't good whatsoever. They'll never stop being nutfuck cultists who oppose every possible basic human right for women, and many of them are willing to be ruthless killers. Are you familiar with or do you remember Malala, the young Afghan girl who they tried to assassinate at age 16 because she refused to stop going to school? Yeah they did that and thats the kind of thing they do. I'm not saying every single one is willing to do that but most probably are. They support medieval-level punishments for minor infractions. Not only that I highly doubt they are going to be able to logistically manage anything. How can they?? According to all my information, they are all illiterate asf as they don't believe in secular education, only reading their fucking cult book. I have heard their economy is currently in tatters and half the population faces hunger, serious hunger, or food scarcity. I have zero faith they will be able to remedy this or if they will even care so long as it doesn't affect them. It is still my position that the Taliban should be removed or eliminated any rational means necessary. That doesn't make the wrongful or immoral acts that any US personnel committed while we were there or any of the willful unnecessary prolonging of the occupation acceptable; it just means both of these realities can be true at the same time.
