  5. I had a little book one time that claimed to teach simplified calculus to 2nd graders who were of only average to moderately above-average IQ. I don't know if it was true but it was an intriguing read. Have no idea where that book is now. It was like a small, spiral-bound mini-book.

We could probably increase the difficulty of a lot of the curriculum in our classrooms here for most students, and I'm sure some educators would like to try that, but those standards are set by each state (California, etc), and as far as I know, a real bitch to get changed. I do tend to agree with you tho, we probably are under-estimating most students' abilities.
