  2. Orwell was indeed an elitist jerkoff, completely ignorant of actual Russian politics or life, and a govt snitch to boot. I suppose he was typical of many white British elites of his day. Naturally seeing the world as a hierarchy with white, straight, moneyed-class British guys on top, and everyone else standing increasing notches behind based on race, gender, national origin and class.
