  9.  @morighani  @morighani  it's because there's no national healthcare here and people are forced to practically mortgage their home and give up a kidney to be able to afford rip-off health insurance. It's very shameful. There are other things too that push huge numbers of people into financial precarity and/or poverty but that's a big one. There's a long list and it's shameful and it shouldn't be that way, but I would say lack of a publicly-funded healthcare system would be number one because it only takes one serious illness without health insurance or coverage to wipe out one's entire life savings, and it shouldn't be that way. It would easy be easy to provide basic financial security for every man, woman and child in this country but it will never come from the red or blue team. They are two sides to the same duplicitous face. The "duopoly" isn't here to help anyone but themselves. The Dems are as profligate liars as the Repubs are. They claim they want to do all these wonderful beautiful things for average americans, and then the moment when they get into the majority where they don't have to worry about GOP obstruction, most if not all of them never come to pass. I've realized by now that's all part of the plan, and I don't fall for their lies anymore. They've had 60 years to back up what they say and they haven't and I don't believe they're even trying. To continue to vote for these assholes after all these decades of intentional failure on their part would be extreme naivete and foolishness on my part. I resolved several years ago that the only people I will be voting for in any election, local, state or federal will be independent candidates, hopefully from the Left. If there are none in any particular race then I just won't vote because as far as I'm concerned it won't make much difference whether it's Red or Blue candidate who ends up taking that seat as the policies won't be meaningfully different.

  14.  @riunikii   of course he does. Thank you so much for caring tho. That's more than my bizarre trash older only brother of ten years (I'm now 40, he's 50) ever did for me. I have very dysfunctional narcissistic (I think) older parents (weird sad very bizarre backstory there) and I wouldn't know what a friendly, kind or loving sibling was if it slapped me in the face. I think I'm a pretty decent person, I have empathy for others and have always worked hard. I'm by no means perfect, but I've never ever felt an instinct to harm another person or even say something cruel. I will never understand why my own blood hates the ground I walk on. They are just so confused... It's unfortunate for me because the older I get doesn't seem to helping me understand it any better. It's such a waste. I'd like to know what a nice, reliable, stable, rational, caring non-dysfunctional bio-family feels like before I die, maybe I will someday; just not mine I'm sure. I really appreciate you being there for your brother. My only living sibling has treated me like absolute trash and feels no guilt about it so I can't even fathom what it would feel like if I had somebody close to me that not only didn't treat me like trash but was actually kind??? Wanted to give me help was actually there for me if I had a problem? I mean what is that?? I have literally no idea what that feels like. Yeah not sure how I would react to that bec I don't know what that is. The parent situation is a little bit more complicated, I would say in my adult years they have been there for me a little, a very little, but yeah, that's the sibling situation. Maybe I appreciate it more than he even does. Who knows what the future will bring? It's never too late to make a positive change. Thank you so much for being good. I hope it's not too rare.

  15. This young woman's partner sounds like a wonderful young man but it's pretty shameful that he had to go through the process that he did just to enter the country "legally" and that's also EASY version?!! And people wonder why others try to subvert the system when that's what they're going to have to go through! Not everyone has the luxury to be young, childless, full of energy, super healthy, suffer from no mental health or trauma experiences, have outstanding psychological stability and so on and so forth. Not everyone has those kinds of emotional resources to sustain this kind of neverending Kafka-esque process. There's a reason why tens of thousands are trying to come into this country through the southern border. They're desperate for very knowable and understandable reasons and they don't have 10 years to wait. There is no sane legal way for them to come in. When they try they're treated like animals and criminals and were recently forcibly separated even from their own infants. Such is the hatred for the person who doesn't have white skin by the feds. This policy was undertaken joyfully by those barbarians under the Trump administration but little has changed since. They claim they're not performing family separations anymore, any maybe not, but migrants are still being held like cattle in for-profit private immigrant jails, instead of humanely processed and admitted as political, violence or poverty refugees. There's no excuse other than racism to make immigration here so difficult. It was OBVIOUSLY designed to limit influx of those from non-white majority nations. Let's just admit it people- Congress and unelected significants on the Hill are a bunch of sick destructive psychopaths who are happily destroying the world right now, starting here at home.

  24. Appreciate this guest. She has seen the madness that comes from an immoral hyper for-profit privatized healthcare system in this country when treating low-income areas. Only people at the very top of benefit, everyone else loses from our current system. While she did fantastic securing a strong income for herself, many other nurses are not so lucky and have to deal with poor wages and intentional understaffing to cut costs. Members of the public forgo desperately needed healthcare because they don't want to be hit with a ludicrously high medical bill for being prescribed ibuprofen and a band-aid. Meanwhile, health insurance executives and top hospital administrators have never made more money (gee, I wonder why!) It is a crime against humanity NOT to have full public healthcare coverage for every citizen in this country. No two ways about it. A trillion dollars for war games and BS every year from the feds, but not a penny for helping people stay healthy and get vital healthcare. The health insurance cartel is literally ROBBING hundreds of billions every year that should be going to healthcare workers and patients. This shouldn't be a THING. A full public healthcare system would end this or at least give people an alternative. It doesn't take federal action either, each state can enact their own version of public healthcare, but because the politicians are absolutely owned and operated by those who represent the ruthless profiteering interests of those who want to keep the status quo, they won't.

  26. Due to the depravity and violence of the long-term entrenched political elite class in this country, this country is set up to serve the top 1% to 2% at everyone else's expense. If we got better people elected this could change, bar none; but people keep voting for the same evildoers and are shocked when nothing changes, and the business and private elites continue to take more and more which causes poverty to expand and trickle upward at alarming rates. I'm all for fair and ethical business provided it is indeed fair and ethical and everyone is benefiting from it; which isn't the case in most enterprises today imo. With a few simple legal changes ALL effective poverty could be ended tomorrow but that won't happen until people of actual conscience get elected in this country and start taxing and regulating all of the excess loot away from the top and funnel it back downwards where it belongs. People can still be wealthy, just not to the ludicrous degree they are now. To think that people have a right to infinite accumulation is something that has always been obscene and appalling to me and I oppose it in my bones. NO private business, no corporation and no single individual or private household has the right to accumulate bullshit amounts of wealth without end. There should be upper limits to income and business size across the board. We can debate where these limits should be but they should most definitely exist. We have to set them somewhere. All families and children under certain wealth levels should get absolute ironclad guarantees of access to comprehensive medical care, a variety of nutritious and desirable food, housing, mental healthcare support, quality public schools, access to public transportation, emergency services and emergency safe housing, and any other basic need government can assist with. If these political filth only want to serve the crassness and the evilness of the ultra elites then they needs to go. The bottom 90% matter TOO. If only we could pull a 1917 today. It has to start by demanding better for ourselves and all other ordinary people in the country. We CAN do it; it just takes political will, which unfortunately is about as craven, corrupt and evil in my eyes as it gets. If we want public policy to work for the bottom 90% we're going to have to throw out the corrupt Red and Blue nonsense clown show and put in some communists and socialists that will do what I have described. Things absolutely WILL NOT change and will only get worse until we do that. I think we can indeed vote our way out of this but only if actual human beings step up and run for office. Short of that I don't actually know because then that means we're stuck with the status quo, and I find that unacceptable. We certainly not going to shoot our way out of this, so voting and debating is the only way. I don't know- it may take a lot longer than our lifetime to change it. Really sucks. Life could be materially secure for all at virtually every moment but not with this kind of Satan-loving political structure in place. One way or another we better start demanding change, organizing for and doing what we can to get there. Every little bit helps. Poverty and lack is absolutely unnecessary and a stain on our social conscience in a nation as materially blessed and plentiful as this one. Bar fucking NONE.

  37. The "how are we going to pay for it" crock is so outrageous that I can barely get the words out of my mouth. They never ask that when it comes to the endless river of gravy train handouts given out to all the various wall street/ big biz crony buddies straight from Congress, you want to talk about welfare? Y'all are looking in the wrong place! There it is! In sheer handouts and big business subsidies. They never talk about that. Hw about a DoD budget every year of approximately 1T? Such a ludicrous outrageous species argument that we can't afford it. It's just bullshit. It's absolute fkg horseshit. Not only can each state and local municipality afford 6much more if they would just tax at the top, mainly big business but also the top 5% of private households, cut back hugely on the police state and rates of incarceration which would help out immensely, the federal government can appropriate any amount they goddamn wish. It's their job. They appropriate. They sign bills and they appropriate. Sometimes fairly, and imo mostly unfairly, but that's what they fucking do. (Oh and btw they DON'T need to assess federal taxes, the IRS is bad and used to as an excuse and a corrupt lever to attack and cause extreme harm to average or low-income people just because they can; why do they need OUR money when they create new money every day?? I mean I'm willing to hear counterarguments to this but.... Yeah.) It's Congress's job to pay for programs and they could pay for whatever they wish. The moment they allocate the funds the money will be appropriated. We have a federal Mint that prints money 24/7. Money is also created and/or transferred digitally every second of every day! If the political will was there to have a national healthcare system second to none we would have it!!!!! We could afford every goddamn thing we wish!! IT'S ALL ABOUT PRIORITIES AND VALUES, PERIOD. You could end all forms of systemic poverty tomorrow easily with a few political tweaks, it wouldn't even require massive changes. It really wouldn't. It's a relatively easy problem to solve.

  38. All Wht people from middle class backgrounds think like this. It's a little frustrating. They have the absolute privilege to live in this woo woo space and utterly believe with all their little hearts that that's how life works. Just "dream harder! You are WHITE! The entire universe is set up to serve you and present to you your dreams!" Such absolutely precious naivete and background entitlement. It's all very "think and grow rich". Another perfect example is when I was about 20, I read a pretty interesting book in the job advice category called "do what you love the money will follow." Now I'm not necessarily against that philosophy, but it absolutely belies the precious sheltered background that most white people just take as their birthright and have known all their lives. They just have this precious naive belief that the universe just lives to be bent to our sweet visualizing will, and that all our dreams are just /destined/ to happen because God loves us so very very much. I don't necessarily blame them for this type of mentality because I'm sure if I came from their background I would feel the same, but it's just so hilariously evident for anyone that wasn't so favored in life, know what I mean??? It's just so obvious to anybody who lives outside this precious naive bubble that's ever had to struggle for even five minutes in life that this is such a immature way of seeing life and SO dependent on being financially comfortable in one's early years. Could you imagine telling a high school dropout young man or woman from an abusive home or foster care background these statements?? Well God bless him. They have the privilege to be so insulated from life's true struggles. To them it's just "think real hard, believe with all your precious heart... and the universe will just open itself up before you..." Meanwhile 2/3 of this country has to live paycheck to paycheck by necessity, and I think 1/2 of 2/3 of the world lives in some level of poverty, maybe more? These are nice people but they are incredibly privileged; they don't know what real struggle is and they don't want to look outside their comfortable self occupied world. I truly wish I had such luxury. 😑😖

  40.  @aellaaskew4263  yeah that's shameful. That is not right. And where tf are the COLAs????? 2007 it was the same! $900 in the state of CA. I would say I'm shocked it hasn't been increased in almost 20 years but unfortunately I'm not. These criminals who get in office have no intention of doing better by those in the very bottom. Unless you're able to rent a cheap room or find subsidized housing, who the hell can live on that??? It would be one thing if the law mandated that no one could charge you more than 15 or 20% if your income for rent, which really needs to be universal, but there's nothing like that. Disability as it currently stands is a disgusting program that needs to be completely changed. I'm sorry for those who have no choice but to take it who are then forced into constant poverty. These rules are vile and wrong. Lawmakers from both parties but esp the GOP are shockingly evil people. They will do everything possible make sure their rich buddies and the wealthy interests who fund their campaigns can skim more and more off the top and get richer and richer while bending over backwards to make sure the poor and average income can never move up the income ladder, and stay as poor as possible. Their intent is clear, ugly and obvious. No one should be forced into abusive poverty just because they need assistance! Everybody has the right to have savings. Savings are there to prevent you from losing everything due to an emergency and to make you life a little better. The point of savings is NOT TO LIVE ON day in and day out! Just because someone has modest savings doesn't mean they don't need assistance if they have a disability! It's because the blood-drinking demon savages we elect hate the poor with a blinding passion; they want of them to go off and die, they hate the very thought of helping those that genuinely need it; they only want to give money to those who are already wealthy or very wealthy. It's corrupt, gross and perverse. I don't understand it, I don't know why these are the same kinds of filth that get elected and reelected over and over again, but it never seems to end. The same exact kinds of criminal hateful ignorant short-sighted scum that have pushed for the same terrible public policies that have impoverished not just those on public benefits but huge chunks of the population again and again keep getting elected and it's sad. There doesn't seem to be any other option right now. I absolutely want to change this but so far it's been impossible.

  45.  @AnimalFarm341  right, but it's wrong either way. It's enforced extreme poverty. Just so morally wrong. Those who I've come across who needed it due to mental or physical disability never got more than $1000 a month. It would be one thing if rent was super cheap or a function of income, or if there was plentiful public housing or section 8 actually worked (it does but waiting lists are often long and it's getting harder and harder to use the voucher because of the dumb rules), but in most cases that's not true. So if you have to live on SSI you better hope you live in an area where you can find really cheap rent or if you have a family member to help you out or you can rent a room for hopefully not your entire paycheck, otherwise you're going to be facing homelessness all the time. I mean our policymakers are just blood-drinking demon ghouls and it's just time for the deliberate abuse to stop. Make no mistake all of this was intentional. These people are that stupid. They know what they're doing to people out here, they just don't care. I'm surprised we haven't hit a second Great Depression yet, the way poverty is exploding things to both parties actions. They only serve the rich and the very rich. I don't know what made them as trash as they are but something did. They're allowing basic costs of living to explode out of sight while while joyously refusing to raise the minimum wage or do any kind of controls on the private sector whatsoever, including providing accessible healthcare. It's stunning really. But we have to understand that nobody in the duopoly cares about us. That has nothing to do with why they're in office. It's all a performance for them. As always, they are 100% creating the very problem they complain about, poverty and homelessness. At this rate we'll be a tent city America in no time.

  57.  @drcatrinaking  lady, are you dense? Ive thought more about this than most and I'm not saying overthrow anything I'm saying to better regulate the private sector, mostly at the top, while providing a better public sector to all. Try to read what I'm saying a little more carefully, and less patronizing if you don't mind thanks. I'm 40 and I think I get it. You also seem to think supply and demand is some holy concept handed down by god when it's nothing of the. You act like there's no place for regulation and laws. Ok that's your view but mine is different. Stop worshipping this nonsense handed to you about a so-called free market. First, there's no such thing as a "free market", our private market is quite rigged for the top 1% and business elites, all I'm suggesting is that be changed through intelligent and proper regulation to protect all workers from entry to PhD, our communities, and our environment; along with the beefing up of the public sector to include better guarantees such as modest UBI for lower-income households, better family and early childhood programs, and comprehensive national public healthcare (and much more but that's just to name a few). This could all easily be financed by better taxation at the top and greater federal funding. The solutions are simple, but they won't come from this current government, the two main parties are shameless and proud corporate servants and all fully bought and paid for down to a man. It would have to come thru electing better people (nigh impossible here for whatever reason, but maybe more possible in the future) or public ballot measures (much more possible imo).

  65. The problem in this country is nothing it is seen as a right by the demons we keep electing to be our overlords. Opportunity is parceled out piecemeal to a lucky few, and the bottom 60 to 70% are routinely thrown away and left to their own devices with few to zero supports. Human life has no value to the animals who have power here and therefore if people die or suffer due to avoidable material lacks they could care less. It's the benefit of being a sociopath. All these problems are beyond easy to solve. We ALREADY live in a post-scarcity world. We produce enough stuff to provide for everyone several times over, but where is it all going? Well some of it's going to those who paid for it, and the rest is going in the trash. Not enough is being redistributed and sent to where its needed. This could be so easily be changed by conscientious hardcore leftists in office if they could ever get elected- but that does seem impossible. The two less than human, utterly worthless, joke of existence corporate parties control all and people continue to be fooled time and time and time and time and time and time again. Its sad to see. People don't have inherent rights to basic material security here; but billionaires, mega millionaires, and Wall Street legal crooks have the right to keep taking forever and impoverish the rest of us to do so. Nice value system our ruling overlords operate from isnt it?? If we want different we have to build up an actual Left party where we matter and vote differently. To think the subhuman Democrats are literally going to suddenly change their spots and start carrying about us (pretending they mean what they say) is beyond a sad hopeless naivete, when generations have showed us this will NEVER happen. Like their GOP friends they serve the elites and always have. Wall Street controls all when it comes to overarching government policy; the Red and Blue parties are the same party with two different faces- that is all.
