I don't think I've heard yet a SINGLE story of a local elected public official whom I would consider to be a good person with the required sense of public obligation and a strong sense of ethics and Civic responsibility. I have never in a million years come across that yet. Not saying a person like this isn't out there and that generally decent people never get elected to a decision-making capacity here, I just haven't seen it yet. All I see is various shades of brutality, psychgpathy, abusiveness and sheer and utter contempt if not outright mindless hate towards the common people who are in their jurisdiction that they CLAIM to serve. It's absolutely mind-boggling.

Everyone should be allowed vegetable gardens; that should be seen as a sacred human and civil right, and any regulation against it as an attempt to prevent us from having food autonomy. No one is harmed by their neighbors raising fruits and vegetables- this is getting outrageous.

@John-ke2jm most small businesses are extremely stable. As for taxes I mean, as far as I know corporate chains pay the least of anyone because it's hyper corrupt and they pay off local officials to keep it that way.

@Thereborngirl well they shouldn't be seen as the owners. That's what private property means. They only have the rights to public property. The scam regarding property taxes has been going on a long time but that doesn't make it right. A criminal grift is still a criminal grift no matter how long they've been getting away with it. I don't mind property taxes provide they are kept modest and in no way used as a CRIMINAL excuse to come after ones only HOME. IN NO WAY does ANY government entity have the right to come after a person's primary home that is legally in your name for any reason (with perhaps one caveat, that being an extreme crime was committed on the premises and the property is being sold to compensate the victims). Any violation of this is non-negotiable in my book and completely immoral and unacceptable. Long ago, predatory people without moral compunction discovered many ways to get away with flat-out stealing what is rightfully ours, and they called it "law" so no one would question it. That doesn't make it right, it just means that these government crimes, abuses, practices and tyrannies have been going on a long time and it's going to take a very long fight to stop them.

Since they decided this would be needed they should have had to give you the money for those or or pay your relocation expenses or grandfather you in. Why not just request that you install better exhaust equipment? Did you consider trying to fight it? I'm really sorry to hear what happened. You got to fight these things. Even if you lose you've got to fight these people. They're not all-powerful. The worst they can do is send Pigs around to lock up your business but at that point you can make a demonstration and hopefully get on the local news drawing attention to the matter. You could also just report the matter to your local news, and have them cover it thus embarrassing these local officials. As soon as the city council looks like a group of bullies causing harm to a peaceful local business for no reason they may have backed down. Also I'm sure you could have sued them for just compensation and damages that they were choosing to inflict on your business and loss of revenue. You can't just roll over when these things happen, that's what they're betting on. These thugs look down on local businesses in their community instead of having maximum respect for them as the backbone of their town. If they had any respect for you they would have offered you full compensation at the first at a minimum. Yes yes these criminals have some local goons at their command but that doesn't mean they're all powerful. You have to fight these guys in court. If the local judge is corrupt and biased, then demand another venue or take it to the next level up. If you roll over I mean... What can I say? You have to fight for your rights here in this corrupt country because those who get a tiny bit of power or influence here just seem to be complete malignant psychgpaths.

Yeah this is a big problem this needs to stop. Once you legally own something, nobody should be able to dispossess you of it outside of highly extreme and rare circumstances and only then if you are compensated double its market value at that time and only with your permission, unless the situation is one regarding a serious crime committed on the property and the property seizure was being done to compensate victims. Government is just a thuggery group for big business protection and advancement in this country. Sometimes counties will try to profit personally from criminal seizures AKA robberies AKA takings, but what I see is more frequently they act as the muscle for big business.

@P_RO_ I guess this is what you want. It's not what I want. I don't want Federal dictatorship. If you want to bow down go for it. No- they should not be the absolute rulers of all- not at all. Nobody should. And I don't care what the founders wanted, they are long dead. We could trash everything and start over which is more and more what I want to do every day. We should draw up a whole new constitution that has a lot more protections for individual and community autonomy. It should be nearly impossible for any government or private entity to take your primary home or your land. Otherwise we are little more than feudal slaves- like now. The individual's rights and the communities rights have zero value in the face of the cult of government as absolute ruler or the Divine Rights of big business (always backed up by the guns afforded to them by their bought and paid for government whores). Do you want to live that way? I know I sure don't. I want real power and control over my life and I'm willing to die for it. Are you?

Supermarkets are controlled by super business giants and as we all know those who head up big business are completely devoid of any ethics or decency; are unencumbered by much of a conscience or sense of fair play so I don't doubt your story for a second. Without government limiting these goons they become the metaphorical bullies on the playground and the rest of us one way or another get to suffer or get the short end of the stick. Only government using its threat of legal action can control and punish these highly organized big money interests. That almost never happens in this country tho- because all levels of our government are almost entirely owned, loyal to and in service to the same big money interests. Thank you for sharing and I think you raise a very good point. Any intentional destruction of an aesthetic or a natural resource, esp if the motivation is financial gain, should be seen and treated as a very serious crime. I made a minor edit to my comment where I was criticizing the property tax system and the way it's used to justify outright naked home and/or land theft- and it is home (land) theft, I don't care what anyone says- and the afterwards it wouldn't post again. But it's a MASSIVE crime and a serious problem, and because they control the local organized force, they believe can get away with it, and they usually do. it is deeply morally and ethically wrong and I will do anything I can in my lifetime to stop it. NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO TAKE YOUR HOME FOR ANY REASON I DON'T CARE HOW THEY TRY TO JUSTIFY IT IS A CRIMINAL ACT! Nobody should be taxed on their property if it means they get to be turned out of house and home like they were only squatting... in some cases with these vile local government degenerates outright keeping the remainder of the equity- a compounding act of astounding criminality. I was just watching a video about this- not only are home seizures due to property taxes non-payment a moral outrage, but some of these municipalities literally have the gall to take it ALL. I think property in land taxes are fine provided they are kept manageable for every income strata, but of course it can never be morally justified that they're used as an excuse to take your home. That's fraud, that's larceny it is an unjust act it is a wrongful taking I don't care if they return the remainder of the equity value to you after the sale it's absolutely disgusting and it's wrong. Since government knows it always has a bunch of bunch of guns to fall back on these people feel entitled to do whatever they want. They feel might makes right. It's up to us to push back on this and to fight for policy change because know it's never right to take someone's primary home or their primary vehicle if it's their sole vehicle. Private debtors are allowed to only take so much at once, but government gangsters feel entitled to bleed you dry and leave you dead on the sidewalk? We don't have to take this. We don't have to accept anything that we know is wrong and we have every right to fight back by every means available to us, and we should. I intend to. They feel bulletproof because they are backed up by sheriffs. It doesn't make it right. I intend to fight crap like this.

Any taking of a business or property should have to by LAW be compensated at a minimum the fair market value at the time of that seizure. Hell- let's make it DOUBLE fair market value - that'll make govt thugs think twice. It's still wrong, everything should be grandfathered in at time of ordinance change and any new zoning changes should have to be approved by the community, but at least with fair if not double compensation a person can transition and move on with minimum disruption. He still should have been grandfathered in though; it's so sad to see this continue to happen. Shame on our government traitors who are doing everything possible to strip mine our communities for Wall Street profit- it's absolutely vile and I don't know how to stop it.

It's the same thing for real estate developers and apartment complex owners, always a corporate entity. They get what they want and the rest of us get fgcked in exploding costs of living, flat wages, and aggressive gentrification and attacks on local small businesses.
