I would not be happy at any most elite private schools other a few here on the west coast, even if I could qualify which I couldn't, as I'm not outstanding enough in anything. If I do return to school, looks like it will be all State schools for me.

  4.  @davea6314  yes I'm sure. Financial aid and scholarships are great things and help many students get a top-tier education. I guess for me I want to see the standard cost of all public universities and community colleges come down on a sliding scale based on the socio-economic background of the applicant. I do not feel it's right that anyone attending a public university should have to take out a loan to do so esp a for-profit loan AKA not a government loan.

  12. Maybe no individual household should be allowed to amass more than 100 million in assets? I mean why has no one considered maximum income limits as well as other maximum limits and business controls? See the solutions are out there but we have a criminal political class that could care less of the 99% fall off a cliff, just so long as they continue to stay in office and the bribes keep coming their way. There are some simple solutions to this but it would require a political class that isn't owned, operated and controlled by the extreme elite class and that's rarely if ever happened in this country. The big money knows what they want and they know how to get it and the middle and lower classes seemed perfectly content to continue voting for the corporate uniparty system. People think there is such a thing as a progressive or useful Democrat in this country. See that right there tells me that they still don't get it. THE TWO PARTIES ARE THE SAME AT THE END OF THE DAY! It's two faces of the same shit apparatus- two sides of the same ass. They both serve their corporate masters and that's all. Taking turns re-electing one or the other isn't going to do a damn thing for the rest of us. The duopoly is the problem. It would be nice if we had some viable parties here whose only concern was the general welfare not Wall Street's bottom line. Don't know if we'll be able to change this in our lifetime. Modern feudalism is here to stay- at least for now. Of course we should continue to organize 100% and try to get outside the corporate duopoly at all stages, just not sure how much headway we're going to make over the next 50 years. But there is the courts, there are ballot measures; we do have some tools available to us.. such as they are. It would just be nice if we weren't completely fucked and held hostage by a single Wall Street uniparty with two faces. We should have a vibrant multi-party system here and we don't. There are a lot of good people in this country but I've come to believe that magical powers have decreed that no person of good soul or compassionate conscience can win in public office here, or if they do they're quickly run out or taken out. It sure would be nice to see this change at some point.

  16.  @wormer104  I'm open to all suggestions but cost should be no barrier to any student wanting to attend a post-HS public institution. Short of making them all free which I doubt will happen here in our lifetime, something needs to do to bring costs for lower and mid-income students way down, with those with no income at all or no ability of parents to help given free attendance.

  21. A basic income and basic food allowance to all households under a certain threshold would certainly have helped you out a lot. I support these policies available to everyone over 18 years of age in the US as basic poverty prevention. Frankly I'm surprised they haven't been put into place yet. I have a small handful of policies that I call my BMMGs, basic minimum material guarantees that without them, in my opinion, we will never eliminate poverty and the need for many millions to live just above the edge. No amount of reform to the private sector, though admirable, will ever accomplish what simple BMMGs or BMAs will, ie basic minimum allowances. I will never be parting with this opinion. Congratulations on making it in a competitive school. I wish you well in your future work endeavors. I often wish I stayed on the college track but I got sidetracked, and then lo and behold, 20 years goes by. However I do hope to go back in the near future. Unfortunately now the costs are ridiculous however there are some ways I can mitigate that.

They need to be somewhere where there's at least some development so they can assess the services they need to try to FIND housing and medical care and public transportation if they don't have a car, which most don't.

If cities hate homelessness so much why do they think it's okay for literally all the housing to be completely unaffordable by most? See, luxury housing is one thing, naturally it's going to cost more, but average and below avg apts are STILL being jacked up in price. Where exactly are the average and low income renters supposed to live unless everyone rooms with each other, and that's just not manageable for everyone?

They probably don't see themselves as doing anything wrong. "Why wouldn't I want to help out our lawmakers??" is how they feel. Cops have very low IQs they're incapable of seeing the bigger picture. Totally incapable. They're idiot robots who just want to be told what to do and don't want to have to work very hard. The only solutions I see are organizing hard for another hard Left party, to carry on the fight that marginalized groups began in the 60s and 70s, and organizing to expand the number of matters that are settled on a public ballot instead of in smoke-filled back rooms and via bribe. We can also strive to increase our mutual aid. The more we help each other they're less we will be at risk of corporate harm or State abuse. Also striving to win elections on a local level will help

  41.  @firstlast8258  sure but you can't make someone hire you, no matter how nice or qualified you are. Finding a reasonable job can take time. And if someone doesn't have a place to stay, that complicates matters. Most able-bodied who are more or less mentally stable are indeed looking for work but that doesn't mean they don't deserve assistance in securing stable housing or welfare to tide them over.

I understand people's objection to it I completely do, but in some situations it is the best choice given the alternatives, even though it's an unfortunate choice. Only the pregnant person and in some cases their partner have the right to make the final decision on something like this. It is definitely not right, no matter how morally wrong or distasteful someone else find the practice, to decide for them. This is a fundamentally intimate private personal decision and no State authority or outside authority has the right to intervene. I mean come on that's just basic. The vast majority of elective abortions happen within the first trimester when normal facilities are available (and the fetus is barely more than a glob) and virtually all that happen later are because of health issues. I just wish more people knew the facts.

Sure, they could be a Bernie Sanders and care about the People, and try to do some good with their position, or they could make tons of money and curry favor with billionaires and big business. Hmm! Ultimately without the people's right to vote on every matter of importance I really don't see this problem being effectively controlled; although some effective bills might attenuate it partially. There's something fundamentally wrong in my mind with a chokehold of representatives being allowed to speak in our stead. Think of a bottle and the bottleneck. This isn't the military where decisions need to be made quickly, where consensus would be undesirable or unnecessary to the goal at hand; the more deliberation, discussion, public participation and viewpoints we have when discussing a matter of public importance, the better. I find governance by public representation just dictatorship with extra steps. I mean come on, who controls the politicians? The Big Banks and the corpos, who else? This has nothing to do with being a subject matter expert, these are simply placeholders for the public and I find the mere concept of representative democracy an almost complete oxymoron. Without full direct voting, where is our voice? I know that I won't get my way on every single ballot measure but I would feel a damn lot better if the public voted on everything versus being held hostage these corrupt clowns. I'm sick of the bottleneck.

  50.  @Kenny_K2323  exactly. Anyone who is temporarily or long-time homeless in an area probably has some ties to the area. Could be children, adult children, family members, friends, etc. For whatever reason they may not be able to afford their own place, stay with family long term, have barriers to employment or barriers to renting but that is the area that they are connected to and they shouldn't have to leave it because of the cruelty of City authorities that just see them as you know, basically sentient pieces of trash.
