  3.  @DimaRakesah  a smaller town or more spread out area is definitely NOT the place for homeless person. It's hard enough for a person who is housed but poor. They need to be somewhere where there's at least some development so they can assess the services they need to try to FIND housing and medical care and public transportation if they don't have a car, which most don't.

  4. Exactly! I suppose you could have gotten roommates but still, shouldn't a one-bedroom be affordable on a basic salary?? If cities hate homelessness so much why do they think it's okay for literally all the housing to be completely unaffordable by most? See, luxury housing is one thing, naturally it's going to cost more, but average and below avg apts are STILL being jacked up in price. Where exactly are the average and low income renters supposed to live unless everyone rooms with each other, and that's just not manageable for everyone?

  6.  @firstlast8258  sure but you can't make someone hire you, no matter how nice or qualified you are. Finding a reasonable job can take time. And if someone doesn't have a place to stay, that complicates matters. Most able-bodied who are more or less mentally stable are indeed looking for work but that doesn't mean they don't deserve assistance in securing stable housing or welfare to tide them over.

  10.  @Kenny_K2323  exactly. Anyone who is temporarily or long-time homeless in an area probably has some ties to the area. Could be children, adult children, family members, friends, etc. For whatever reason they may not be able to afford their own place, stay with family long term, have barriers to employment or barriers to renting but that is the area that they are connected to and they shouldn't have to leave it because of the cruelty of City authorities that just see them as you know, basically sentient pieces of trash.

It doesn't really matter what kind or where, that can always be decided based on local factors but it starts with local political leadership which is responsible for all the abuse and cruel treatment that the homeless and destitute currently receive. Or they can mandate that a certain percentage say 40% of the currently available units be switched over to affordable rates. Trust me chief the solutions are out there and they're not complicated.

We need rental reform from many different directions. The three times the rent income rule is vile and preposterous and needs to be made flagrantly illegal.

Thank you for what you do and for trying to bring a voice of humanity into the situation.   16.  @arcanineryu  that's true that's a good point that people frequently overlooked. In my area there's a lot of wire fencing around open fields "this is county land" or "this is City land". People need to challenge that and I hope they do. There's a war on the commons by the lunatics in charge and it's not going to go away anytime soon. We just have to get organized and fight back with face-to-face confrontations and court cases. It's possible it's just going to take some work.

Local authorities have in a sense almost unlimited control. This can be a good thing if they use it the right way or it can be a bad thing. But it's incredibly rare that a federal entity is going to waltz in and try to exert themselves and even if they do that's going to take months or years to wind its way through a court system.

THEY'RE the cause of homelessness by making the most basic essentials of Life increasingly unaffordable and refusing to provide basic foundational services like mental healthcare and physical healthcare! But it's the vulnerable who are doing wrong by, I don't know, being in need? Explain that one to me. When I was sleeping in my car temporarily during a few short stints of being temporarily homeless I would get razzed periodically by local cops and it was really quite amazing. Its as if they took it personally that I dared exist in public in my own fucking vehicle at night - I mean these people are NOT normal. They're extremely mentally unwell. The psych0paths are in charge and we are all at risk from these crazies.

  38. I passed thru Grant's Pass a few years ago. There was an increasingly hostile attitude from local city authorities towards the homeless. (I actually was homeless during the time because a very amoral crazy Pig towed my car for an unjust reason when I was temporarily living out of it, and I didn't have the money to get it out, but I was able to find a local couple to pay a little money to stay with for about a week and a half until I was able to make other arrangements. (They actually would have been happy for me to stay longer even for free but they had an evil old lady neighbor who ratted me out to the landlord, and the landlord was one of "those" landlords who informed that unless I was going to be put on the lease (I had only been there about 5 days at this point remember I was hardly moving in, and it's not like my host hadn't paid their rent), I couldn't stay any longer. One of the main reasons people are homeless in this country is due to psychopathic evil neighbors like that. I DON'T understand why we eat our own. This evil woman didn't know me from Adam; I always kept my voice down and when I was on the property I was almost always inside. For all she knew I was related to one of the people in that apartment, and yet she still complained to the landlord. WHY ARE PEOPLE SO EVIL AND MALICIOUS FOR NO REASON AT ALL? IT'S NOT LIKE THIS FINANCIALLY BENEFITED HER IN ANY WAY. We found out that it was she who reported me later. Does anyone out there know? I'm just curious. I've seen this kind of behavior again and again from the more godforsaken sectors of humanity. I guess misery and hatefulness loves company.) I'm not surprised that GP are the ones at the center of this case. I'm glad someone from that area is standing up for the most vulnerable in that community. There's been an incredibly malicious and cruel coordinated attack on the homeless throughout municipalities in Oregon over the past 5-6 years at least. I would read about it frequently when I was up there.

You probably made the best decisions you could given your situation, most people do. You simply make the places available, you enact the necessary rent control or rent exemptions or regulations whatever is necessary, and then you let the designated agencies get to work and do their job. I mean for those who generally want permanent housing it shouldn't take 18 months, or years, something is deeply broken if that's the case. It should happen like this! Anyhow that's fantastic news for you and I'm thrilled to hear it. Even if the place isn't the best or has issues at least it's better than not having it and now you can start working on other issues in your life, if you have any. Housing HAS to come first! even better if people are given ongoing supportive services.

And it's pretty vile for municipal authorities to do nothing to ensure that the bottom 60% isn't rent stressed or can find housing and then complain about the homeless issue in their area, and then pass measures to increase harassment or abusive treatment of such populations which SHOULD be illegal. There's a place for for-profit housing, I don't have a problem with that, but we need other types of housing, public housing and lower-profit housing I call it.

Local, State and federal. Not all housing has to be public or non-profit, likewise not all housing should have to be for maximum profit. We can do a combination of this to meet the housing needs of everyone. It's commonsense and moral. All it takes is at least one person in public office to start the process.

  45. I'm really sorry you're in this situation and I hope you find a way up and out soon. I do see homeless tents around me so clearly not all areas are bad for tents. I really hope things get better for you soon. I've been homeless before but I was fortunate enough to have a car at the time although thanks to the Pigs I lost it three times due to unfair tows. Thank god I had someone to call on at the time or I don't know what would have happened. These police are crazy. They're criminals, straight up. They're full of hate and want someone to harm. They know what they're doing. It's madness. I've had my car towed twice in the winter by these monsters. I had to get real creative real fast or I could have been out overnight and sub-freezing temperatures with literally no gear as everything was in my vehicle. Also maybe god was looking out for me one evening because a kind Samaritan reached out for me and stayed with me overnight, help me get something to eat until things warmed up midmorning. Fortunately the next two nights I was able to get a motel 6 to stay in things to a friend I was able to ask for money. I hope hell wait for these people. Also if you have the money you might want to invest in one of those sturdy pull wagons. I've seen good deals for them on amazon. If you have a place where you can receive deliveries maybe you can get it there or just pick it up in Walmart.. maybe even try to walk out with it if you're so bold.

You have every right to live in a safe and clean community but I would wager that homeless people are not the cause of the vast majority of any so-called violence that you may be aware of where you live. Like you said most of them just lack necessary mental healthcare, and who's fault is that??? If the proper basic services were available for every man , woman & child in this country very few people would end up on the street. This is a political failure through and through from the White House down to your local city hall. Just know that. Also I've known & helped many homeless people through the years, and been temporarily homeless myself in my car although you'd never know it by looking at me, & those homeless camps almost never dangerous places. Often times it's a lot of people who used to have jobs & normal lives and just fell on hard times. Don't let their less than perfect appearance cause you to prejudge them unfairly.

  62. I'm glad your city has those programs that's very good but like you said sometimes the problem goes deeper than just making the resources available, although the resources are the first step. Everyone can transition off the streets if they want to, provided the resources and supportive services are provided. It just takes longer for some people than others. In the meantime people obviously need to be left ALONE while they do what's necessary to survive in whatever patch of grass that they have chosen. So long as this or that homeless person isn't trying to come into your house or bothering you this shouldn't be a problem for you or anyone else. It's sad that the mere fact of being homeless causes Karens to think that they're a bloodthirsty axe-murderer just waiting to pounce. I'm not saying you feel this way but society seems to feel this way. Just because someone's housed doesn't mean they're not a thoroughly terrible person or doing terrible things, and vice versa. I've been temporarily unhoused before and I've never harmed anyone in my life and you wouldn't know it to look at me. I certainly wasn't dangerous, I just needed a place I could crash overnight until I could make better arrangements. It's sad that ignorant or heartless people don't see homeless people as human or think they're automatically out to do something bad to them. "There before the grace of God go I" is clearly a sentiment that escapes most people, even so-called Christians.

Who are the targets to be selected for this very special program? Very simple, you just have to be a person of color or poor, that's it. It's costing hundreds of billions a year to cage up to 2M people, most for nonsense, and for what??. Imagine a country run by such miserable subhuman evil hateful wretches that cost is no object to continue to cage and oppress and subjugate up to TWO million people, just because (free labor but overall, just because). NOT because they are bloodthirsty predators in most cases but because they smoked a bowl or sold some substances or committed a minor crime. And ftr I'm all for people being held accountable but not the way ours are. They don't want you ever getting out. Laws like three strikes are proof of that, and while these laws that the devil himself cooked up are only supposed to apply to felonies (which by the way everything's a felony today, for this exact reason) they're frequently applied to misdemeanors as well. If you're not familiar with the issue as I am you really cannot believe the evil that goes on behind the scenes. A very easy evil by these judges and DAs and lawmakers. The goal is to Shanghai as many people into the system as possible (guilt or innocence is absolutely irrelevant, applying a just sentence is absolutely irrelevant, does it matter who they are as long as they're an easy target, constitution? Civil rights? Nobody cares), keep them there as long as possible, make it as difficult for them to get out as possible and as difficult to stay out as possible. Think I'm exaggerating? Do the most superficial research into this issue and you will see I am NOT. I also have some personal experience with the system with close contacts of mine. I guess all the authorities feel the cost is well worth it because they make back several times that in all the essentially free labor. I mean really most people who are lucky enough never to have to tangle with government destroyers in this country just don't get it bec they don't see it. We are still very much a SLAVE State. That is by far the main driver. So the plantations just changed. Who are the targets to be selected for this very special program? Very simple, you just have to be a person of color or poor, that's it. It's costing hundreds of billions a year to cage up to 2M people, most for nonsense, and for what??. I hope it's working out for those in charge on the balance sheet because honestly, I don't even think they're coming out ahead cost wise, but maybe they are, maybe that's why they keep doing it. Imagine a country run by such miserable subhuman evil hateful wretches that cost is no object to continue to cage and oppress and subjugate up to TWO million people, just because (free labor but overall, just because). NOT because they are bloodthirsty predators in most cases but because they smoked a bowl or sold some substances or committed a minor crime. And ftr I'm all for people being held accountable but not the way ours are. They don't want you ever getting out. Laws like three strikes are proof of that, and while these laws that the devil himself cooked up are only supposed to apply to felonies (which by the way everything's a felony today, for this exact reason) they're frequently applied to misdemeanors as well. If you're not familiar with the issue as I am you really cannot believe the evil that goes on behind the scenes. A very easy evil by these judges and DAs and lawmakers. The goal is to Shanghai as many people into the system as possible (guilt or innocence is absolutely irrelevant, applying a just sentence is absolutely irrelevant, does it matter who they are as long as they're an easy target, constitution? Civil rights? Nobody cares), keep them there as long as possible, make it as difficult for them to get out as possible and as difficult to stay out as possible. Think I'm exaggerating? Do the most superficial research into this issue and you will see I am NOT. I also have some personal experience with the system with close contacts of mine. I guess all the authorities feel the cost is well worth it because they make back several times that in all the essentially free labor. I mean really most people who are lucky enough never to have to tangle with government destroyers in this country just don't get it bec they don't see it. We are still very much a SLAVE State. It's insane. Shame on these hateful crazies! They'll fight to the death to keep others in chains, directly or indirectly. Hard to believe it's still happening. And what's truly evil is that when certain charities and private individuals have provided attractive & well-maintained tiny homes for the unhoused and helped them find a place to put them, municipal authorities have almost always destroyed them.   81. It's vile that being homeless is considered a form of criminality just because it's not the most attractive thing to look at. It should never be an affront to someone that another human being is temporarily in need of shelter. These people are human just like the rest of us should never be treated as less than. The very FACT that they ARE human beings who are doing what they need to survive should secure them from all forms of harassment, cruelty, harm, aggression, or other types of negative action from any local so-called authority period, and yet it does not. It should be patently against the law EVERYWHERE to target someone or even contact them solely due to their status or perceived status as an unhoused person, and it should ALWAYS be illegal to try to make money off these people via extortion (tickets) or vehicle tows aka thefts (esp considering the damage that can cause to a person who is relying on that vehicle for shelter). When it comes to private property the same rules apply as with anyone else, that's perfectly understandable, but when it comes to public areas or private property with permission, these people should be automatically protected from targeted violence or attack, verbal or physical. The crux of the issue is, do human beings have the human RIGHT to survive and exist in public space if necessary?? Well of course the answer is YES, the very Constitution entitles people to the basic rights of LIFE and LIBERTY, I'll assume that means Liberty to exist outside. So that should cover that. Basically you CANNOT morally criminalize being in NEED. Since poverty will ALWAYS exist in this country unless radical steps are taken, you can never criminalize voluntary or involuntary poverty, that that flies in the face of all moral decency. People have the right NOT to be targeted due to their temporary financial status or to be subjected to dehumanizing, degrading, or cruel treatment by ANYONE, public authority or not. It should be considered a serious felony to cause abuse or harassment against a person due to their perceived housing status. Just like other protected categories in discrimination & civil rights law, why should financial status or housing status be any different?? QUITE SIMPLY, BEING HOMELESS, ALMOST ALWAYS INVOLUNTARILY, IS A PERSON'S HUMAN AND CIVIL PROTECTED RIGHT BECAUSE IT HAS TO DO WITH SURVIVAL. Considering that there is no such thing as affordable housing almost anywhere anymore and the most vital services that many people need are being defunded or removed or were never available in the first place, how could authorities NOT expect homelessness to exist in this country?!? THEY'RE THE ONES CREATING IT! WHY DON'T THEY LOOK IN THE MIRROR IF THEY WANT IT TO STOP!?

I've been homeless before, I just didn't have the money needed to rent a place. I mean I was looking for work at the time but I would have hardly felt it would have been appropriate to basically kidnap me and force me to do backbreaking grueling work for X hours a day. And would I be paid for this labor? Or would it literally be actual slavery? People in need don't exist to be your convenient slave force. Wow lady you need some help. Better watch out that you never fall into even short-term homelessness, you might be snatched up by a workhouse kidnapping crew and forced to do hard labor for 12-14 hours a day. I mean it's not slavery I mean it's not like they own you or anything! Churches can have to work and not get paid oh and by the way you can leave but there might be a sweater in it for you maybe a meal or two.   84. Local municipalities have never followed that 2018 ruling. I mean unless there's a federal authority to oversee and enforce it, it's unenforceable. I've been in three separate municipalities since then and they have all been hostile to the homeless and had a standing order against public camping. It's nice that its on the books but good luck getting local authorities to follow it.

  86. Wow your story really touched my heart. It's so unfortunate what you had to go through and what you're dealing with right now. Her family sounds like horrific people to do that too. They literally made you homeless. That's horrific, and this is after you took care of her for her whole life? Some people are just evil. I'm not going to ask why you guys didn't get married because that's your business, maybe it would have been a good idea, but I think it's just shameful that they forced you out of the home that you had shared with her for so many years. I would have thought that she could have willed it to you and that would be protected under the law, but maybe not. Are you receiving any kind of disability benefits right now? It's shameful what happens in this country. It would be SO easy to provide basic food and safe shelter and medical care to all those who need it. It would be so so easy. People are just utterly abandoned in this country. I don't understand how we got to here or why more people aren't up in arms about it. Considering what states and cities spend on their PD and other basic services this would be a drop in the bucket to ensure that vulnerable populations had their basic needs provided for. Just so sad. They are destroying people out here and they do not care. I don't know when it's going to end. The political class in this country knows only one value, actually two, cruelty and greed. I forgot if your post said that if you're receiving disability yet or not but if not I hope you at least apply for it. That's the least you deserve out of all this.
