I've been following this tragedy since it started and it's just so sad to watch this unfold. When you realize the big corporations are in charge in the US, that they own every single politician easily and both bogus parties (or the red-blue uniparty as I call them), therefore they completely control the laws and the courts, it's quite discouraging when you see things like this happen and you know the perpetrators are going to walk free as a bird and fear absolutely no consequences. And it's not like this is the first time; industrial accidents have been occurring since the industrial revolution. Heavy industry and big business have NEVER been controlled in the US, quite the contrary; then as now they had complete run of the place. They haven't even been mandated to put scrubbers on their stacks which are a nominal expense. It's quite stunning that these organizations are truly allowed to be the dictators in this country and have been for a long time. I hope and pray this changes in my lifetime. The political class should be a dictatorship of the People, not the upper corporate class.

Tragic. We've got to do better than this.

@DensLight I just think they need to ban all additives. I don't understand why it should be legal to put basically poisons and toxins in a cigarette that is orally inhaled. I like American Spirit brand. No additives. If you're gonna smoke, try to do so limitedly and use AS cigarettes. (Confession: I use American Spirit cigarettes 😃) But you probably guessed that

@christiecobb4637 yeah 😔 It's not pleasant. It's a real crime that happened here and those responsible for it are in no danger of being held accountable for it. But people are strong and they'll fight through this you know.. they got no choice. Will they even get covered health care when their inevitable health conditions result? Will Norfolk Southern be forced to pay for each and every one of their inevitable health complications? Doubt it. Possibly - but doesn't look like it yet. If you want to see more I made a playlist.

@spankyssurprise1361 I'm fortunate to still be very healthy knock on wood let's hope I can maintain that for another 40 years. I don't smoke that much. Once or twice a day tops. I don't think natural tobacco is harmful, I'm pretty sure it's the bizarre chemical additives the other tobacco companies use. To each their own but everything in moderation is my motto.

Not to toot myself but I have a related playlist you may be interested in

I'm not against any business making a reasonable profit, but rank profiteering is not some kind of human right or human entitlement. We need a serious value realignment in this country.

Got a playlist with more data for anyone who's interested

@RobotronSage well the problem is we aren't the State. Unless we do terrorism, which I'm all for, we have no way of hanging them up by their innards. What I'd LIKE to see is: NS execs get charged with multiple felony crimes of dereliction and public endangerment and face at least 10 years in prison each. NS is totally liquidated and the funds distributed equally to all residents within a 40-mile radius The federal govt takes over the entire freight rail industry and takes aggressive measures to be sure this doesn't happen again And RAILWORKERS LABOR DEMANDS, PUNY AS THEY ARE, ARE MET FOR A CHANGE will it happen???? Right now unfortunately not. So unfortunately I just know how it's going to go. Hopefully Industry won't always own the govt but right now they do.

Yeah. But we can't do that in a corporate dictatorship. Can we build up a new Left party??? Can we force thru a People-First agenda??? Can we deprogram loyal uninformed clueless red-blue voters??? Ooof. I hope so but that's going to take time and be very hard. Wall Street owns this place. But I talk about it every day. Sooner or later we have to bec the status quo is untenable. Corporate rule has to come to an end.

Indeed. But getting there is going to be a challenge.

I say zero levels are acceptable, but bottom line, there are and were so many ways to control and/or prevent this but when you have a criminal corrupt political class totally owned by and subservient to Wall Street this is what you get. Our task ahead of us in our lifetime if we are serious about this is to do what we can to forcibly dethrone the dictatorship of Wall Street. It won't happen overnight but sooner or later it has to happen. Like, there's no middle ground. These constant environmental crimes, these low-level crimes against humanity that happen with breathtaking frequency in this country, we should have a zero-tolerance on those. It's going to take awhile I don't pretend that this can happen overnight but we have to strategize a way to take the power away from these business thugs. It's going to be a lot a lot of hard work because they own all 50 states atm, believe me. If government doesn't control big business and give it strict codes of conduct lemme tell ya, like a ped()phile in a preschool, it's not going to limit itself. It's us or them. They can exist but they need to exist within strict limits or they're just going to continue abusing us and abusing our communities with abandon.

@ArtStoneUS they shouldn't be investing with groups like this. In all fairness they probably don't even know. Investing is a curse. I'm against it. All it causes is harm and chaos to the victims. Why should non-seed money investing even be allowed???? I see no moral reason for it. It encourages companies to steal from their workforce and take dangerous shortcuts which if left unchecked lead to things like this. Yeah I'm totally against it.
1
Yeah but don't hold that against them. Most of them are good-hearted people and they didn't know any better. Besides in a ridiculous corrupt two-party system nobody has a real choice. Only if we build an outsider party that puts people first and present that to voters, will then voters have an alternative to the current useless two-face system.

We either use State power to control big business, or they will continue running roughshod and commiting rampant crimes of negligence and misconduct like this ad infinitum. If human lives and human well-being are worth more than business profit, especially big business profit, then join me on the Far Left because we need a radical political realignment in this country that puts human welfare and well-being as it's #1 value- not numbers on a balance sheet.
