  5.  @chinchilla641  oh it didn't age well in the last 5 minutes? Ok. Well I'm glad you love the cops. You must really hate your background if you don't identify on the political Left because if you can't see the willful evil, cruelty, and unending bigotry from the Right and it's GOP officeholders, and the misguided mentality of those who vote for them, and how this causes ongoing generational harm and pain to all communities of color but esp those Black and Brown; then I don't know what to tell you. You'd rather identify with an ideology of Caucasian/white supremacy or at a minimum white dominance, then with the Latino diaspora and being proud of your heritage and and seeing yourself as an ally to the Black liberation and justice movements within the US. Welp, I guess that's your choice. Far as cops go, the grossly out-of-control and fascistic cop industry in this country has a huge number of problems, starting with the number of violent, racist and/or predatory cops in it. I'm not saying every cop is a crazy mentally-unstable racist lunatic, though many are, but it's not always to that extreme. Some are just scamming opportunists, others are simply harassing assholes, others are equal-opportunity predators. Not all will resort to unnecessary and egregious violence but a whole lot do; and unless you have been living under a rock for the last ten years it should be clear to you by now that the whole lot of them are rotten one way or the other. The whole system is rotten in my eyes. "A few bad apples" is what most people like to think when confronting this topic and is definitely a useful and convenient lie for the comfortable and middle-class white people to believe in order to get people to keep supporting the ever-growing police state in this country without any question. There are so many rotten or abusive aspects of the entire cop industry in the US it's hard to know where to start; from various SOPs amongst most departments to the latest incidents of gross misconduct or murder that make the news. Ofc there are always exceptions and it would be impossible to say 100-200,000 people are ALL this or ALL that; that is why I just look at the institution as a whole, how it's used in this country, how it's historically been used, and what those in it are allowed to get away with or even encouraged to do. I could go into great detail why I believe this is very much so, and maybe I will on a follow-up comment. I understand we need trained first responders to be available for emergency situations and desk jockey detectives to solve serious crimes; although I have my deep issues with them too I understand the function is necessary. It's the otherwise street cops outside of legitimate First Response use that I can't stand. That should be unacceptable. Those "patrols" as they like to call them, are no more than SCAMS. They are looking for anyone that they consider an easy target, usually POC or someone they presume to be poor. These are all rampant violations of civil liberties and human rights. I take massive umbrage to this use of street Pigs to purposefully and predatorily drum up petty arrests, to cause intentional harassment and extortion via tickets and traffic stalking, and incidents of sheer property theft (most commonly through car tows but also thru flat out rampant theft of money or goods inside a car, all they have to is make up a bogus charge of "suspicion of drug possession" and the outrageously lax and criminal, in my view, civil asset forfeiture laws allow them to seize anything they please). When are you gonna get it thru your head??? It's ALL just a giant grift; an ugly oppressive giant grift targeted almost exclusively at poor people and POC. And worse, they're almost never held even slightly accountable for any kinds of misconduct they commit at anytime, up to and including blatant unjustified homicide, aka murder. Even worse, there is NEVER any independent oversight of these assholes or depts at any level in the whole rotten system and believe me, that's intentional. We can't even get Congress to pass the goddamn George Floyd Justice in Policing Act even though it doesn't go nearly far enough but at least it would be a start. That's how deep of a stranglehold this dirty powerful industry has (one which is intimately interwoven with the mass incarceration industry) on our lawmakers. It must be fun being part of the only non-legally-bound and wholly legally-immune RACKET in the whole country; one that rarely takes more than a two-digit IQ, a pretty low or lacking value system, and a GED to get into (yay for basement-level entrance standards and zero accountability!). They are a nearly lawless gang of thugs and assholes who get away with anything and everything they want to and do far, far more harm than good in the communities they "serve". Even minor non-violent harassments can have a real impact on a poor person's life in the short term, and sometimes longer. I know, I've been there. Even the petty stuff they get away shouldn't be allowed, and is highly immoral by my value system, as it causes very real harm to those they target. Ok I think that's good for now. I really didn't intend to write as much as I did. I encourage you to learn more about this issue. You don't have to take anything from me. The evidence, the reports, the last 30 years of increasingly-militarized metro regional police forces, the historical use of police to oppress, bother, or terrorize targeted groups; the constant uncovering of scams, corruptions, mistreatments and abuses within PDs or county jails; hordes of people's personal experiences, and more are all out there for any who wish to learn about them.
