  8. This was a really deep conversation. Besides the deplorable racial aspect, I'm tired of the NFL being a virtual plantation for all players. Yes the players can make decent or better money but the NFL is exploitive as hell. I'm wondering how legally we can force the NFL to change. It's such a grift. It's so pathetic that they even got the feds trying to chase down counterfeit sports clothing memorabilia sellers. Yeah that's something I want my tax dollars wasted on, those poor billion-dollar NFL owners are really getting their lean profits cut into buy these sports counterfeiters out here. Way to go after the real criminals, feds. The fact that these worthless POSs who own the teams, but do nothing but be racist and ignorant, get to suck up the majority of the the revenue I find just sad. And that still wasn't enough for them. They're still conning city after city into subsidizing brand-new billion-dollar stadiums for them. The players don't even get guaranteed healthcare for life, only five years past retirement. That's outrageous. Any brain damage or other degenerative condition caused by playing could take years to show up. Most players don't make gobs of money. Only the top 10% really make those mega million dollar contract we hear about. And what about agency? They have none. There's a players' union but is it anything more than token??? Doesn't seem like it. I wish the owners could be booted out of the NFL and the teams turned over to being player-owned or community owned and managed. Right now in my opinion the NFL is mostly a grift. Most of the money goes to the headline players and the owners. I'd like to see that change.

  10.  @tijgertjekonijnwordopgegeten  I thought she looked great personally. I think it's pretty clear that those genteel white people who are clearly part of the upper crust of their society and always have been were on some level offended by Serena's figure and probably, if they were to be honest, her race... but of course they would never admit to that. Tennis, along with fencing and horse riding, is one of the most bougie, snooty, snobbish, classist, whitest, most insular recreational hobbies and sports to ever have been created and historically pursued. If you don't think there's some lingering bias or some sort of low-level racism percolating among at least some of the people within the administrative structure of these that sports, I think you're just being naive. I can't read their minds, I can't guarantee they were being ignorant or biased, but after reading about it and hearing about it it struck me that they were. I mean after all, what legitimate criticism could they have? Her entire body was covered so they couldn't claim that her outfit was too revealing. The only thing her outfit revealed was her natural body shape. There's a lot of implicit bias within the well-heeled, more white bread, more square sectors of society in every western country. But yes it's possible that their motivation was entirely separate from that and not motivated by any sort of knee-jerk distain or dislike for her racial identity. Yes of course it's entirely possible. I don't think that's what was going on here but you're right, it's possible.
