There are a lot of causes going on here but the solution starts with RENT CONTROL. None of the politicians want to do that because they don't want to actually control the landlord class, because they take massive bribes from them to get into office and to stay in office. So you're asking the fox to guard the henhouse. Politicians say they "want" to fix the problem, but only if it doesn't upset their wealthy patrons.
Without rent control this problem is only going to get worse. Without providing wraparound services at low or free cost, such as mental healthcare, basic physical healthcare, and drug treatment care, this problem will only continue.
The problem is, in LA county, a full HALF of their total budget goes to their local police Nazi terrorist State and their local incarceration complex. Obviously this is a huge problem. That number should be less than 10%. Instead it's a full HALF of the budget. Half of every public tax dollar in LA county pays a ruthless LAPD PREDATOR or pays to put somebody in a cage for almost certainly unnecessary or wasteful reasons.
With evil such as this being fully condoned and nurtured by the animals we elect to local public office, how can we ever hope to fix this problem?!?!?!? All these corrupt psychopaths have for us is poverty and lockup. They only care about serving the wealthiest citizens, the top 5% of voter; the donor aka bribing class.
So honestly, the solutions to this problem are pretty simple but the root cause is that the politicians we elect are filthy trash owned by the Gestapo State AND the ruthless profiteering industries which tell them (politicians) that under NO circumstances will they vote for public healthcare or rent control, because IF they do, they'll take their money and go home; aka, they'll remove their financial support and give it somebody else who will. And so the politicians obey, and usually very willingly because they don't give a flying fuck about poor people they don't even give a shit about the middle class; they only care about the richie rich narrow elite and themselves.
The problem is we don't elect anybody that has any morals in this country. We are voting for people who will and do point guns at our heads. Ultimately, the fault is ours. This goes for Republicans AND Democrats, because they are the same trash behind the scenes. This is the root problem because people WILL NOT vote for socialists or commies who put the public good ahead of ruthless corporate profit. This is it right here.
Until that changes the status quo will just continue and expand.
This problem could get fixed overnight, but the politicians that we elect are owned and operated by ruthlessly greedy interests who tell them outright in an ultimatum 'you WILL NOT control the cost of our rent, you WILL NOT pass public healthcare in the state of California', and so on. And these politicians, being on their knees to these trash, happily obey. If anyone thinks any elected politician gives a flying fuck about them in this country they are sadly and tragically and hilariously deluded. EVERY RED OR BLUE POLITICIAN IN THIS COUNTRY HAS BEEN ON THEIR KNEES WILLINGLY TO BIG CORPORATE MONEY AND BILLIONAIRE MONEY SINCE THE DAY THEY RAN FOR OFFICE. THEY HAVE NO INTENTION OF SERVING THE PUBLIC, THEY NEVER DID. THEY'RE JUST GOOD LIARS AND PEOPLE KEEP FALLING FOR IT.
FACTS.
Therefore the status quo will only continue. All the basics of life will become so cost inflated that only the top 20% to 40% will be able to comfortably afford them. If this isn't stopped then this problem will just increase until we have vast tent cities and ghettos like you see in the third world.
It's not that politicians don't know what this problem is- they know quite well; it's that they don't CARE. They are elites (or wannabe elites) who serve the business elites at any cost, NOT the general public.
Voting for both Republicans OR Democrats brings us this problem because they are both the slaves of the corporate elite. BOTH of them.
To get better people into office you have to VOTE for better people. Better people have to run and make it onto the ballot and the debate stage, which both red/blue parties do everything in their power to prevent. So the rot runs deep. Sure, leftists and socialists can try to make a stand, but it's extremely hard to get elected coming from an outsider party. The average voter is just too brainwashed and unaware to choose that candidate, AND SO THEY FAIL. SO LIKE I SAID, WHILE THERE'S ABSOLUTE MALICE AND VERY ORGANIZED EFFORTS BEHIND THE SCENES TO NOT ALLOW OUTSIDER CANDIDATES TO GAIN OFFICE, ULTIMATELY WE DO THIS TO OURSELVES.
All I can say for people who want to change this at the source is to do your best to run for public office as an outsider Left candidate. The deck is stacked against you and it's a huge uphill battle but you know, I certainly support the effort to try. We have to try to overturn this corporate hellscape dystopia that we're all trapped under. Poverty and homelessness and Justice issues can be solved overnight but not if leftists don't get into office. That's the problem.
There is one other way forward to try to force positive social change, ballot measures. Don't forget that an efforts to put positive measures on the ballot CAN work, it just takes an organized plan.
