Yes, something MX had to learn the hard way. I think an independent Republic of TX could have worked out tho, other than the fact some whites inside the territory would have wanted to continue slavery, but that could have been dealt with and stamped out I believe either by internal systems or pressure from the U.S. leading up to the civil war.
