PR for dumb (or at least not very questioning people), and easily triggered reactionaries. I mean, that's the whole Right's strategy since pretty much forever and it seems to work very well for them. Their whole schtick is lgbt-bashing, some abortion bitching, and racism, thinly veiled or not. They have nothing else!!!!!!! Economically they have no answers bec they could care less, they got theirs by serving the interests of the rich and major industry, and fuck anyone else. If you're poor that's YOUR problem. Their whole platform is ignorance, cruelty, faux outrage, white entitlement, bigotry and bigotry-lite, and baseless fear. Guess that's enough to keep control of a majority state assemblies and the US Congress since at least 1981 not to mention all the previous eras where no racial justice legislation was ever passed between 1864 and 1965. 100 years. That's how long the powers of evil have held onto "leadership" in this s-hole nation-state, and in key ways, it continues today.
