  1. The technology used to stay in the dark is allowed but the activity is not. If we would put more people on it (= throw more money at it) we could probably suppress it a bit more (or just make the price go up like with illegal drugs). The most important reason for this to persist I am afraid is that no one cares as long is it continues to be hidden. I mean, we know about hunger, war, child labor, slavery, apartheid. We know exactly where it is happening, who is responsible and how to prevent it with boycotts and aid. But it's not on television because it doesn't sell as news and it will likely cost us money so nah, better not make a fuss about it.
