  2. Dutchman here. Our government just follows the position of the white house in lockstep. They get away with that because a slim minority in parliament is fine with this. It has been like this for decades, we are the US's sidekick on the world stage. What is new is islamophobia. This, not so coincidentially, aligns perfectly with Isteal's agenda and ideology. This has indirectly given Isteal's cause more leeway. People who are uneasy with immigration are easy prey for Isteal supporting lobby groups now. The older generation here has been spoonfed the idea of Isteal as a socialist paradise. That image has well settled with many and it still goes a long way. Overall political awareness is low these days. Most people appear to have no clue about the most basic concepts like left and right. To them left means you like rainbows and wind mills and right means you want to close the border. It is that bad.
