It is religion without a God. Plus, if they stop clinging to the idea they are 100% right, they feel they have nowhere to go. With their education they cannot imagine a society with Jews and Arabs living together all having one vote. The whole idea of the Jewish state is deeply racist.

She's American yet fully identifies as an Israeli. In her defense, I don't think she was actively wishing for the other woman to be killed, she was arguing that this is what "they" have done to them so "they" should not be defended as "they" are bad people who do not deserve better treatment than what is given to them now. Palestinians are this one convenient anonymous blob, identified as a caricature of baseless hate against Jews. It just doesn't compute with some when people challenge that idea.
